on tuesday night, vancouver was a snowy winter wonderland. but the falling snow was replaced by sleet in the morning, and so the fluffy stuff didn't still around for as long as the
first snowfall of the season.
no matter, that wednesday afternoon, little z was in for a little treat: his first ever skating lessons from uncle kurt and auntie claudia! alas, i wasn't there. i was still working. so these are the wife's photos (at 32 weeks pregnant, it just wasn't feasible to join them on the ice, much as she really really really wanted to). so for the first time ever, we were the parents in the sidelines (or absent, in my case). and apparently z was having the best time ever.
he especially enjoyed wearing skates and watching the zamboni do its thing.
claudia and kurt are two of the most amazingly kind and generally awesome people we've ever met. kurt has gone out of his way a number of times just to do stuff around our home (like bolt bookshelves to the wall). and claudia has just been there for us in so many ways in these last four years, truly a kindred spirit.
kurt is on his way to revelstoke at the end of the month. and claudia returns to europe to begin an adventure in london in the spring. so i'm grateful that they seized an opportunity to introduce zeph to the ice. zeph couldn't have been in better hands.
i joined a bit later in zeph's experience, after the zamboni had done its job. i was truly shocked to realize that it had been more than 10 years since i stood on skates and glided on ice. and boy was i rusty! thankfully, kurt held my hand and it took about 4 rounds for me to get back into a rhythm where i can finally hear myself skating. i love that sound.
of course, by that point, z had enough and it was time for his nap. so i had to get off the ice and take of the skates.
clearly not before posing for a picture though.
i just can't wait to go back and try again!'
