When the moon hits your eye [Locked to ourshininghope]

'At the start of every school year it's customary to wish for not only for good luck, but for some new beginnings as well.  Maybe study a bit harder, be a bit more outgoing, that sort of thing.  I'm fairly certain it was never meant to include the sort of oddities that go on in the clubroom, but I also found myself hoping that this year, maybe ( Read more... )

Every step forward was the hardest. Usagi wasn't allowed to look back, because there was nothing to look back to. She had been cut loose from everything she had ever known and loved. And being left to drift through her destiny-free life had brought her to this new world.

There had been a spark that had caught her eye while she had passed through -- something that was enough to draw the Moon Rabbit's attentions to it. It had lead her to a peculiar high school high on a hill top.

Of course, it just had to be a school, didn't it?Thankfully, she had appeared close to the beginning of the school year, and promptly (along with just a hint of magic) enrolled herself into North High School to see what kind of adventure following the shiny spark would entail ( ... )

While Usagi had been entirely oblivious to him, Kyon had spotted her a good while before she got close. He didn't necessarily know everyone in the school personally, but most of the faces were at least familiar. That girl, though wearing the school uniform, did not look familiar at all; she was around his age, he figured, and with hair like that? No way would he have overlooked her.

To say nothing of how cute she was. No, he definitely would have noticed her before.

'And she's headed right for me! I swear, if she confesses to being my secret admirer, then I'm going to make sure this day becomes a national holiday.'

He slowly pushed himself up onto his elbows, eyebrows raising as he watched her approach. And approach. And... approach. It was about then that he realized she had no idea he was there, and as her foot caught his leg...

'Timber!'Down she went, leaving Kyon to wonder just what the hell she had found so interesting up there. Was he invisible ( ... )

"Ow ow ow ow ow ow..." Yeah, that was certainly going to leave a mark. Usagi's legs are still a bit tangled up from tripping over Kyon and she's making small grumbling noises because damnit she's pretty sure that she might have a bruise somewhere thanks to her little klutz attack there.

"Yeah... yeah I'm fine." Blinking, Usagi looks over her shoulder to see Kyon staring at her. Her eyes glance over to what exactly tripped her and panic flushes her face completely as she struggles to get herself off of him, "Oh my gosh! I'm sorry! I'm so so sorry!"

She finally gets herself turned around so she's actually facing him and continuously bows her head.

"I wasn't paying attention! I was just watching the sun through the trees! I didn't mean to trip over you!"

'Was she cute before? Because I think it's safe to say that even after one of the least graceful things I've ever seen - and that's saying something! - she's much cuter up-close. I don't even care that she banged up my leg a bit; some things are worth a little pain, you know what I mean?'

He offered her an understanding smile, leaning forward slightly as he bowed his head as well. "Don't worry; I barely felt a thing, so it's--"

BONK. Forehead met forehead with a brief cry of surprise, and he reared back to rub his forehead with a grimace. Not his best first impression ever, that was for certain.

Muttering "ow" a few times under his breath, he cracked an eye open to wave a hand in her direction. "Anyway, it's alright. Accidents happen."

The sudden meeting of foreheads causes her to reel back with a painful surprise and she sits back and places her hands to cover the throbbing of her skull, "That... that hurt." Usagi whimpers softly, cradling her head until she's sure the pain is finally subsiding.

Exactly how long would it be before she started becoming the graceful woman that she had seen her future versions be anyway? Because seriously, this whole klutzing out thing was really getting old.

"I should have looked where I was going." And slowly, she bows one more time to make sure she doesn't end up breaking his nose or something. Because that would be a great start to a new school year, right?

When she feels it's been an adequate amount of time to bow, she raises herself up and gives him a sheepish little smile, "I... didn't hurt you too much did I?"

Kyon rejected the idea of bowing again - 'Fool me once, and all that.' - instead waiting for her to rise fully before giving a small nod of his head in place off a full bow. His own head still hurt a bit, but he was man enough to not rub it anymore. Or at least, he wanted to seem that macho.

It's a guy thing.

"I've had worse, trust me." he laughed, glancing to the side with a sheepish grin of his own. "Really, it's fine. Nothing's broken, so let's consider ourselves lucky, right?" Mind you, after a fall like that, he was more worried about her than himself.

Hesitating for a moment, he added, "Well it isn't how I planned to meet someone, but I guess as long as you're tripping all over me we may as well get names out of the way." Now he could tell her his real name, but honestly? Nobody else knew him by that, here. It would be easier just to tell her...

"Call me Kyon."

"Kyon..." Usagi let the name roll off her lips, trying it out for the first time. It doesn't take her very long to smile much more brightly now that it's sunk in that she has a brand new friend.

"My name's Usagi. Tsukino Usagi." Oh, a fall like that was nothing compared to some of the other moments she's had; both transformed and as her normal self.

Although he really didn't need to know that part of her. It's better to keep a low profile after all. "I have a knack for meeting people in interesting ways!" Her mind thinks back to when she first met Mamoru -- having thrown her test over her shoulder and hitting him square in the head. It makes her sad for just a moment, but she shakes her head and the happy is back up.

"Let me make it up for tripping over you! I could get you a drink or treat you to a snack!"

'There's something infectious about that smile; you know what I'm talking about, don't you? The kind of smile that, no matter how you may be feeling, inspires a smile of your own - it's that kind of smile that Usagi has, as if she's somehow mastered the art after years of grueling training. With a smile like that, one must wonder if she's ever had to go through any hardships.

Ah, of course she has; everyone does, right? Though I definitely doubt her hardships are anything like mine. Little does she know I meet a lot of people in interesting ways, too.'

His own smile widens a little at her introduction, and even moreso at her offer. "Usagi, is it? I'll join you if you want to go, but you don't have to pay. It was an accident, I can't charge you for that." He pushed himself to his feet, offering his hand to her with a quick shrug.

"We'll each pay our own way. If you accept those terms, it's a deal."

"Are you sure, Kyon?" Usagi asks hesitantly, taking up his offer and placing her hand in his to help herself up. As soon as she's standing upright, she takes her hand out of his and starts patting her skirt down -- brushing off any dirt or cherry blossom petals that may have stuck to her school uniform.

After that's done, she spots her school bag about a foot or so away and moves to pick up the item in question. "I mean, I can do that, but I really don't mind paying for you if I have to!"

"That's fine that you don't mind, but you don't have to. If you had sprained my knee perhaps I would feel otherwise, but that isn't the case." He crams his hands into his pockets, breathing in deep as a gust of wind ruffled his hair. "It would feel strange if you paid, so let's just leave it at that."

'After so many penalties resulting in me paying for everyone at the cafe, it's so unusual to have a girl trying to insist on paying for me. I don't know how to feel. Flattered, I suppose? But mostly confused.'

Slinging his bag over his shoulder, he cocked his head a bit to one side. "So, what kind of stuff do you like, Usagi? As far as food goes, I mean."

"Well okay.. if you're sure." And Usagi does leave it like that, even if it makes her feel a little bad for not making up for her air headed moment. She doesn't answer his question at first, having been distracted by the gust of wind and the gentle falling of the cherry blossom petals.

-- distraction is bad. Usagi snaps herself out of it and gives a happy smile at the question, "I like all kinds of food! But, I don't eat anything with carrots." Her face scrunches up and she sticks her tongue out in disgust. "I think those are icky."

'Icky? I haven't heard anyone our age use that word in a long, long time.'

Ignoring his initial surprise at having heard that particular word, he shakes his head a bit to formulate a response. "I... see. No carrots, then." He scratched the back of his neck a little, adding, "A cafe, then? You can just get a dessert, or something like that."

And he'd have some tea. It probably wouldn't compare to Asahina-san's, but better than nothing, right?

Dessert? Just the sound of sweets makes Usagi's eyes shine happily. But, if that wasn't any indicator, the short squeak of happiness that comes out of her mouth should be. "Is there a good cafe around?! I haven't had a chance to find one yet!"

She takes a few steps forward, only to spin around to face her new found friend with excitement in her eyes. "I just moved here, so I'm not sure where anything is around here!"

It'd be lovely if this new friend of hers would be her tour guide too....!

His eyes widened a little at her sudden eagerness, blinking once before responding. "Uh... yeah, actually. There's a cafe where I meet with my friends, sometimes; they're all busy though, so it'll just be us."

Does that make it a date? No, nonsense. They just met, obviously it's just... getting to know each other.

'Besides, having a girlfriend would only make my life that much more complicated. I think I have enough complications as it is, so no thanks.'

"I'll lead the way, come on." He turned to head for the school gates, waving a hand to indicate that she should follow him. "I haven't seen you around before. What class are you in?"

Usagi doesn't think of it as a date! She's just thinking that it's good luck that her new friend can lead her to her new sweet spot in this town. "I'm in class 2-9." She thinks off the top of her head.

When he waves her over, she follows right after him, taking place to stand place at his side with a curious look on her face, "Everyone seems nice here. I really hope that I fit in soon."

Speaking of fitting in, "Ah! So, this is a cafe you and your friends go to? What kind of people are your friends, Kyon-kun? Are they as nice as you?"

His eyebrows arched as she said which class she was in - that was... just a coincidence, right? True, he'd been having less and less faith in things simply being coincidences, but this just had to be.

He flushes just slightly at her praise - 'It's good to be appreciated once in a while, that's for sure!' - before shrugging a shoulder slightly. "Actually... class 2-9, was it? You might have met one of them already. Have you spoken with Koizumi, yet?"

'And if so, have you experienced one of his monologues? At least I have the courtesy to keep mine internal...!'
