Posting every day is hard, especially in the rush that is a work week (CRAZY. UGH). Here are the last 4 days in a row!
Day 12: What makes you fannish? And by that we mean, what is it about a tv show/movie/book/band/podcast/etc that takes you from, "Yeah, I like that," to "I need MOAR!!!" Is it a character? A plotline? The pretty? Subtext that’s just screaming to be acknowledged?
There is a lot of stuff I love but I am not fannish about. Hannibal, Mad Max, Jessica Jones for example. To bring me to the dark side, I must fall in love with a character and want to fill in the gaps, generally because I see subtext with a character that is very different from the first and I want more. I'm a shipper at heart, so basically I want to make my favorite pine horribly, but then find true love. :)
Day 13: In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create.
I generally recc old favorites, but this time I'm going to go with stories I read very recently:
More Than Gravity, by JenTheSweetie, MCU Avengers post AoU, Steve/Tony, 21K, Gen, "Aw, time travel, no." (On Christmas Eve, Tony came unstuck in time)
Why: Time travel done right is AWESOME. I loved the structure of it, and I couldn't wait to read the story again to see the pieces fall together having the insight. I laughed a lot, often because of Clint who is delicious as a secondary character.
see each other face to face, by Returnsandreturns, Daredevil (TV), Matt/Foggy, 3K, NC-17, When they finally do get back to Matt’s place and miraculously up the stairs, Matt leans back against his front door and grins when Foggy says, “Well, normally I’d go for the traditional kiss at the door, but you’re pretty drunk, I’d hate to take advantage of you.”
“He’s a gentleman, too,” Matt says, and Foggy laughs, leans in to jokingly kiss Matt’s cheek when Matt turns his face at the same time, so Foggy ends up kissing the corner of his mouth.
Why: I read this today and what a GREAT Foggy voice. It was a delight, a cute get together story filled with banter, and NO CONFLICT. I love angst, but this was pure fluff (with a bit of porn) and worked so well for me.
insert camping pun here, Teen Wolf, Stiles/Derek, 12.5 K, PG, "I'm going to be different," Stiles clarified. "I'm going to go to parties and make friends and," Stiles leaned closer into the computer and whispered conspiratorially, "Get laid."
Why: I always love
kellifer_fic's stories. This is a college AU, where the gang gets to know each other, and I bought Derek as the strict RA with his precious clipboard hook, line and sinker. Another fic that is just plain fun.
Day 14: In your own space, share your love for something fannish: a trope, cliché, kink, motif, theme, format, or fandom.
I saw entries on things that would make the top of my list: having to fake a relationship and found families are sure hits with me, too. But by god, in any genre or cliché, give me good snark and banter and you've got me. I love, love, love it. If you make me laugh out loud, you've got half of the battle done to win me over.
If we are talking cliché, one thing I love about the superhero genre is identity porn. Give me all of the misunderstandings, pining on the alter ego of your comrade, or even better having feelings for BOTH the hero/person behind the mask. It's delicious. And ridiculous. ♥
Day 15: In your own space, talk about what you're taking away from this challenge. Did you learn something? Did you interact with new people? Or did you try out different fandoms or formats or relationships? What's changed between Day 1 and Day 15 of this challenge?
It was fun to interact with you guys more! Making the entries, but even more reading what everyone was coming up with. It made my flist/circle pretty active, and it was great :) I did meet new people (HI!), joined a new comm, read in old fandoms, tried one that won't be for me but that's ok, and I've started commenting more, may it be entries or fic. It's simple, but it helped a lot to have more fannish interactions with friends and autors I don't know personally and it really made a difference in my enthusiasm vs fandom. SO yay! Great start of the year, and I'll try to keep up with the commenting :)
And this concludes the 2016 Snowflake Challenge !
