I think so, but I don't want to assume.
see, I signed up for
scifibigbang , where I have to do a 25K fic from now to July 31st. That in itself doesn't scare me so much, must be my
apocabigbang experience talking where I ended up at almost 46K ;)
but the
scifibigbang community offers something I've never really had before: alpha readers or cheerleaders
let me quote them: "Alpha/Cheerleader is a person who keeps tabs on the author as he/she writes the fic. The author can bounce ideas off you, send a "help me! What should I do next? AHHHH!!" email/message to you, call on you to support him/her throughout the process. This is *not* being a beta reader, someone who will edit the story. You are there to help the author throughout the writing process...be a buddy to them."
I've always written by myself, then releasing the story once made to a beta, except that one time when I co-wrote with
astra2104 (which was GLORIOUS). Of course I had great advice from betas, to add here or cut there, but it was never major stuff.
So I am tempted to try that alpha/cheerleader thing on the comm. But I don't know if I'd be at ease with strangers? what if someone volunteers to help, but we don't quite get along or have different views? On the other hand if I'd ask over there, maybe I'd get a hard core fan of the show I'll write for and make new awesome friends!!! argh, I am torn!
I know I want to stay the boss of my story, I'll mostly decide where it goes, it's more the cheering that could be fun. it would be sort of like those bigbang filters I never ask to be on generally, so I know some people are just not interested in that kind of things, and it's ok. PLUS there is the fandom barrier, because predictably for people aware of my current loves, I'm not doing something relevant to the interests of the majority of my flist!
so I'll copy/paste the little sign up from the comm here, see if there's a volunteer or two in my own flist ready to waves the pompoms ;)
Fandom(s): It's going to be Stargate Atlantis exclusively, not a crossover this time. Set in Atlantis/Pegasus, post S5
Category: (gen, het, slash) slash baby! well gearing towards it, slash at the end
Pairings: (if applicable) John/Rodney
Other warnings/info: (AU, Character Death, non-con, etc.) None of those, although it's going to be angsty, I feel like torturning Sheppard a bit. Sheppard POV. Basically one day Rodney walks out of Atlantis without saying why and vanishes, John obviously freaks out, wants to find him and bring him back, although Rodney doesn't want to be found. BTW, has this be done? because I don't remember reading it, but maybe it has been done, which would be embarassing!.
Alphas, if you are interested in working with a certain author me, please comment =D
