[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]
Name: Sakuraba Neku
Age: 15
Gender: Male
Fandom: The World Ends With You/Subarashiki Kono Sekai
Timeline: Post-epilogue, SC experiences included
History: Neku's History

Character Personality:
Neku is a normal fifteen year old born and bred in trendy Shibuya. He had been rather resistant to the influences of other people while growing up and has a strong sense of self. He hated conforming to the masses, which is especially strange in Shibuya, where trends and fashion changes quickly. He has a strong sense of self and pride on being an individual, which is why he admires the street yet commercial artist CAT, whose art promoted self-identity. This made him an aloof teenager, following the structures of society while holding himself as a free and open-minded person.

This self-image is not particularly true, especially so after the death of his only close friend. There are very little details available about that friend, just that Neku held that person close to his heart. That friend's death had been shocking and Neku blamed himself for it, as the friend was going to meet him that day. The subsequent isolation and hurt from losing someone who knew him well made Neku reject other people. He became an anti-social recluse who did not care about other people and held to the tatters of his self-identity.

Neku died bitter, prickly and angry at the world, intent on keeping everyone away to avoid opening up and getting hurt again. His accidental death granted him entry into the Game and his entry fee had been his identity - everything but his name and the lingering sense of separation. The loss of an essential part of his self made his experiences in the Game much easier to accept and take to heart. His three weeks in the Game with three different partners made him grow as a person, learning about loss and overcoming it.

With Shiki, his first partner, Neku learned not to disregard others, to open up a little to acknowledge them. When Shiki was taken as his second entry fee, he began to acknowledge his responsibility to his valuable partner. With his second partner, Joshua, he learned to open up fully and learn to trust others. Joshua's loss and self-sacrifice for Neku's own life and goals touched him, even if the guy's an ass and everything was a lie. With Beat, his last partner, Neku learned to lead, to not just move passively through his life and to take what he needs and wants. And in the end, he proved that he did learn to trust even though he knew that he shouldn't, and that no matter what happened, trusting your partner, your friends was important, despite the risks, hurt and betrayal.

These experiences became the foundation of what people in Death City know of Neku: a steadfast, determined person willing to help other people grow into themselves. He holds friendships and partnerships close to his heart and considers them precious.

As a pretty introverted character, Neku is pretty quiet, prone to internalizing all his criticisms and insults and thoughts, but thankfully, he's shown to have reasonable and powerful filters for them whenever he opens his mouth. He's also learned to give people the benefit of the doubt. Oddly, he's considered the voice of reason when with his partners. Because of this, Neku's usually the type to follow along other people's ideas, but usually ends up taking over when things get messy.

The key to his personality would be the motto he picked up from his idol, though. "The world ends with you (so) open up your world."

Character Abilities:
Character Abilities:
Neku is a pretty smart kid for a fifteen year old. He should be in junior high and about to enter high school. He's good at memorizing little tidbits and random pieces of information like chemistry, though he can get a bit slow. He's worked clerical and runner duties for the Detective Agency last he was in Shibusen and worked nights in the club as a DJ.

In the TWEWY canon, players go through the process of Soul refinement in a period of a week where they are challenged through battle and puzzles. Soul refinement and strength is determined by character growth and their Imagination, which powers supernatural abilities called Psychs.

Prior to playing the Game, Neku had been marked as a person with an exceptionally strong Soul and that was the reason why he was chosen as Proxy to the Game’s Composer. He was able to use a broad range of Psychs while his other partners (bar one) could only use a couple. Playing through and winning three consecutive weeks and constant exposure to the Composer’s Soul became a painful test that made Neku a formidable Player. He has three canon partners he can synch with at the same time, showing that his soul can support and accept a good number of people without strain.

Skills that he was exceptionally good at were reading peoples’ thoughts, scanning for Noise and telekinesis. His experiences with different partners both in canon and in his last visit to Death City allowed him to adjust his soul to the wavelength of others without losing his sense of self. This ability to resonate with a good number of people has an effect similar to Soul BFF, where there is little chance of rejection.

Physically, he's good at running and sprinting long distances at a short amount of time. His experiences in the Game made him rather athletic and flexible. He put efforts to increase and keep this endurance through a daily run in the mornings prior to helping weapons find their weapon forms.

It is implied that he does and will excel in any artistic venture he goes into. He’s good at wielding weapons made of Psychs and energy, but he will need practice to wield an actual weapon. His fighting style is close to dancing, however, as he is used to keeping apace his partner and listening to music while battling. He's fairly self-sufficient and is capable of living on his own.

Character Weaknesses:
Neku's creativity ends at his dress sense. It is honestly nonexistent and truly atrocious to the point of being a running gag. He has a fear of being exposed in public, both physically and emotionally. The former was born from an event where he had been stripped down in public and further worsened by the lack of gender differences in dressing during the Game. He's doing it all for the stats, really.

However, he is also a very private and reclusive person. For years he has been reclusive and anti-social, even distrustful of other people. While he has changed from his time during the Game, the deep-seated insecurity and fear of being left alone will still carry over. Remnants of hostility and apathy remain in him and any strong and negative emotional events can cause him to regress from his character improvement.

The sense of opening himself to others and let himself be known is there but with it comes the fear of ridicule, rejection and misunderstanding. From here on, his struggle is with keeping and applying the lessons he learned from the Game while redefining his self-image. He is prone to faltering and pessimistic thoughts. He does not trust blindly, but those who have his trust he believes in, no matter what. As it is, the limit of his trust has yet to be tested, but abandonment is a legitimate fear for him, one that can cripple him with enough pressure.

[ SOUL CAMPAIGN SECTION ]

What are the abilities that your character will retain in Soul Campaign?
-Physical abilities remain
-The strength of his Soul as well as its resilience
-Sense of resonation levels / synch rate - or rather, an intuitive ability to adjust himself to another person's wavelength. This is natural to him even in his last arrival as a weapon where he could at least be carried with ease. I thought that giving him Soul BFF would only be redundant.

What are the weaknesses that your character will lose or gain in Soul Campaign?
-Social links are a go. He’ll learn more about gaining and losing and how to cope with that.
-He’s practically a normal person. Illnesses and the like that he was able to resist when he was dead and pushing it will apply to him now.

[ WEAPON SECTION ]
Why your character should be a Weapon:
Honestly, Neku should have a chance of being a weapon for once because this way, he wouldn't have to take the lead. He has experienced having soul resonance and pacts with three other people (and once with all three simultaneously) and often the burden of supporting the emotional essence - the souls of his partners. He's also had the unfortunate task of having to save his world (city, really, and all its people) on his own and taking the lead of partnerships. I say it's time to give the chance to someone else.

What is your character's Weapon form?:

Neku's weapon is his own favorite accessory: his headphones. While he threw them away at the end of the game to show that he was willing to open up to the world, it'll bite him in the ass this time as he finds that his ability is primarily in listening (woe, irony). Specifically, to the music of the soul.

1. Scanning
The ability to glance through the topmost thoughts of people, and searching for specific kinds of Soul.
Limitations: Neku has to be in his weapon form to use this ability.
Basis: Player pin
2. Imprinting
Can only be done while scanning. Imprints words into other people that may or may not be helpful, usually prompts an "I have an idea!!" moment.
Limitations: Neku has to be in his weapon form to use this ability.
Basis: Player pin
3. Psychokinesis
Telekinesis that allows to lift objects as heavy as a car and move it around for 8.6 seconds before he runs out of energy. It takes 3 seconds for him to 'reboot' this ability. Dexterity is also no problem; the power and pressure put into this power may vary at will, which allows for pinning without crushing and crushing select areas rather than the whole.
Limitations: Neku has to be wielded by a meister to use this ability.
Basis: (Reaper class) Raven pin
4. Fusion
The ability to instigate a group Soul Resonance in a group of varying numbers of Weapons and Meisters who are not necessarily paired. Like any group resonance, this allows for stronger, better-coordinated attacks. Neku himself the strain of supporting all the souls and adjusting them by proxy so long as they're willing to work with him. This, however, puts him out of commission for a day or more and leaves him ravenous from overload.
Limitations: This is Neku's Soul Resonance ability, which requires him to be wielded by a meister. This ability will also require other characters' permissions.

[ MEISTER ONLY SECTION ]

Why your character should be a Meister:
Neku has always been athletic and can do well as fighter. He has qualities that will allow him to excel in leadership and more importantly, resonation with other people. He has a strong sense and confidence in himself and knows that his growth as a person involves clashing with others without overwhelming them or being overwhelmed. His sense of partnership is strong and he’s well-suited to match different people through prior training. The quality of his soul is refined.

Meister Ability:
Soul Kekkai - They can erect a barrier in order to contain damage that occurs during a fight. Once it is taken down, the surrounding area goes back to normal with no damage whatsoever. Only the people chosen by the Meister who summons the kekkai can enter.
