Story time! This can be considered mostly canon. Sadly, due to crappy schedules and the like, Kasarin and I never quite got to complete a particularly important log between both Saix and Axel. The battle log, with Axel and Saix facing each other during the Isis confrontation.
For those who were not here for it, a little bit of quick history: Isis is a Deva, a particularly tricky one indeed. She convinced many that she was capable of fixing things -- worlds and people. Saix asked for a heart, and she gave it to him. However, it was tainted, causing him to become loyal to her. Thus, when the face off with Isis and her Ashura began, Saix and Axel inevitably battled.
And there you have it.
Title: Always Another Side
Rating: No more than PG-13.
Characters: Saix; Axel
Timeline: During the confrontation with Isis.
Summary: "Now, Axel. I can finally say that I truly hate you with all my heart."
From practice, it was easy to lie. Easier, without a heart still; Saix would never betray himself by expressing anything. A cold slate, and although ironically with a face, one could potentially call him faceless with his lack of reaction to things.
Now, it was different. In many ways, and he realizes it. It didn't matter before, and now it still matters little to him. Every day, the violet coloration in his eyes grew, and the more adoration he felt for Isis increased.
In time, he would know exactly why. Now, it does not matter.
I hate him of course I hate him I hate everything about him
It is easy to lie without a heart.
They trade blows; claymore against chakram. The moon is on Saix's side, and they both know who is the more powerful one. All in due time, Axel merely has to fall.
That's all there is to it.
With a heart, it is harder to ignore things. Although he does not completely feel, there are some things genuine. Overflowing. Isis did not care to filter his relationship with Axel, former or otherwise. He lied when he said hate, he knows that.
He knows what's bubbling up in his chest inside.
Axel slips out from battle. Saix knows this move; he plans on striking from behind. Idiot--
It'd be so easy to destroy him. Saix tightens his grip on his blade.
It is not hate.
Just before the chakram stabs through his back and out his front, Saix drops his blade. Wisps of darkness slither from the gaping open wound. When Axel pulls his weapon out, Saix falls to his knees, clutching his chest.
"Don't think I didn't see that," Axel criticizes to the best of his ability. "Where'd all that special hate of yours go, eh?"
"Heh..." Saix cringes. He can't not. "I was... not truthful."
"There's a surprise." Axel circles around; it won't do much good, but he kicks the claymore away. If Saix really wants it back, all he must do is summon it, but it's the gesture that counts. Saix won't last long, anyway. "You, lying? Perish the thought."
Saix peers up at him, scowling, then lowers his head. "My heart... the first thing. I felt with this heart..."
There's silence, then Axel nods, as if to tell him to continue.
"It was not hate that I felt... but sorrow, when I thought of you," Saix admits, incapable of smothering the grief he feels with a mask of coldness.
Slowly, Axel crouches down beside him. There's silence for a moment, then he places a hand to Saix's shoulder.
"Hey. I'll see you at the gate later. All right?"
The berserker peers up at him, then snorts. "Do not die, Axel."
"Don't need to tell me twice."
Saix finds a tired smile, and fades into the Darkness. Death is not particularly permanent here, so he's heard.
He supposes it is time to test that theory.
