Title: Life
Summary: Live life to the fullest, in spite of drudgery

Written for Challenge #7: Songwriting over at writerverse. Concrit welcome, especially with this one!

Wake and rise, rub your eyes;
Let's start the day!
Break your fast, for morn won't last
Noon follows quickly.

Time is short, to work report;
Deadlines don't wait.
Please your boss, cut down on loss
Such is your duty.

Break for lunch, out you punch,
Then back you go.
Slave some more, save some more
You need your money.

Drive back home, don't dare roam;
Too tired to play.
Get some rest, sparse at best
Eat dinner sleepy.

Ah, the life! Free from strife!
You can feel it bearing up your soul.
Future's bright, hold it tight;
Hope is our role.
The cycle never ends, but you will end soon.

Off to bed, rest your head;
Insomnia.
Life just drags, courage lags
Where is the beauty?

All you do is follow through,
Day after day.
Life's a rut, doors bang shut
You choke in pity.

Then you think, on the brink
Am I alone?
Are there more weeping sore,
More feeling empty?

All feel trapped, all feel wrapped
In a cocoon.
Web of ties, cage of lies
No way to run free.

Ah, the life! Free from strife!
You can feel it bearing up your soul.
Future's bright, hold it tight;
Hope is our role.
The cycle never ends, but you will end soon.

Must you reel, must you kneel?
Must you give in?
Maybe you can hold true
And turn tides slowly?

Have you time to start the chime
To wake up hope?
Charge a smile, laugh a while,
Beat toil slyly.

Perfect days, death to frays
You can't command.
Life will burn, life will churn
You'll walk on briskly.

Keep in mind that time unwinds
Make use of now.
Sing your song, so a throng
May join in bravely.

Ah, the life! Free from strife!
You can feel it bearing up your soul.
Future's bright, hold it tight;
Hope is our role.
The cycle never ends, but you will end soon.

So when you rise, blink those eyes,
And start that day.
Shine and glow, and brightly so
Mock all that's dreary.

Darkness breeds fast indeed
But you don't care.
Night or no, on you'll go
Evil beware!

Ah, the life! Free from strife!
You can feel it bearing up your soul.
Future's bright, hold it tight;
Hope is our role.
The cycle never ends, but you will end soon.

NOTE: There's a story behind this, and I can't keep it to myself. Borrowing the idea of using a tune to help you write from another member of the writerverse comm, I started playing YFC's "All My Love." (I don't like all YFC's songs, but I ADORE THAT ONE.) It really helped. Still, I'm afraid that my morbid personality made the attempted upbeat ending fall flat. One line (life will burn, life will churn) makes me laugh no matter what, because I put it there to remind myself of this:

writing, lyrics, songwriting
