This Hannibal Show Is Driving Me Crazy

Mar 30, 2014 00:09

Thanks to a crazy busy life right now, I didn't get a chance to watch Hannibal until today. And I barely have a coherent thought in my head, but I've got to get the feels out, so here they spill. It's basically a play-by-play of whatever nonsense ran through my head all episode.

[SPOILERS GALORE]The music at the beginning--WHAT IS THIS? It's the same music that I Read more... )

It felt so right, I couldn't imagine it any other way.

Exactly. It's horrible, but it was the best direction to take the story. I didn't mention this before, but even though I was yelling, "NO! BEV! GET OUT! LEAVE THE HOUSE, YOU DON'T NEED EVIDENCE THAT BADLY, RUUUUUN!!" the whole time she was in Hannibal's Murder Dungeon, at the same time, that look on her face when he actually turns up just highlights how much of a badass she is. There is no fear there, or even a sense of betrayal like you might expect--just cold, righteous determination.

I hope Hettienne Park keeps Live Tweeting the episodes, because her comments are fabulous.

I have a feeling we'll all need that inscribed on our tombstones pretty soon, if this show keeps going on like this.

God help us all when Michael Pitt joins the cast. I may have a stroke.

This new guy, even though we're rooting for him, hasn't won our respect yet, because he's only (to our knowledge) finished off one lowly kill.

Just throwing this out there: I'm not rooting for Orderly Guy. Hannibal needs to get captured/killed eventually, but Will has to do it himself. Not Crawford, not Bev, not Alana (who is going to figure it out one day, and it's going to hurt like hell, because although her weakness is the same as ours--Feels--she's not dumb), not Dr. Arkham, I mean Chilton, or any other characters who turn out in this or subsequent seasons. It has to be Will. Anyone else who tries will be either killed or discredited.

That's my theory anyway.

[SPOILER]I'm 1000% sure it has to be Will to bring Hannibal down. But I was still rooting for Orderly Guy, and was shocked he actually got as far as he did. Wow.

Also . . . I really, really love his OMG SENPAI FINALLY NOTICED ME! face:

Michael Pitt--wasn't he cast as Mason Verger? *ducks and hides*

Yeah, that was the most shocking part of it. This guy is an amateur, clearly, but he's come the closest to actually killing Hannibal. And all it was took was Will needing a "favor." How'd he even know he'd be at the pool that day?

Interesting side-note: Hannibal's near-death experience in this episode is a gender-swapped version of all those horror tropes I was talking about in my other post. He gets stripped down, humiliated, and has to have the big, strong FBI agent come rescue him. That's par for the course for most female characters in your usual horror story, particularly with serial killers. That's . . . interesting, considering the opening half of the same episode was all about Beverly and how much it sucks that she's gone now.

And yep, Mason Verger--that's what I've heard. Although I still don't really know who that is. (You do know who Pitt is, right?)

Oh, very good point there. I hadn't even thought of that!

Trust me, you do NOT want to know who Mason Verger is yet. That's all I'm gonna say. As for Micahel Pitt, I'm not connecting a name with a face right now, though you and lots of other people are practically going bananas. *consutls google* Oh, he was in that Dreamers movie you were talking about. I get it now!

Hahah--yes, that's why I keep using this icon. He was also in Funny Games, which IMO is his best role. And the one that most qualifies him to be in this show, because he's EVIL in that movie.

ETA: Okay, here's the opening scene from Seven Psychopaths; he's in it for basically a cameo (NSFW, language mostly) but it's hilarious. Also, here's the trailer for Funny Games (not technically NSFW, but still very disturbing). That should give you some idea why we're so excited to have him on board. He'll fit right into this world, no problem.

Wait--isn't Seven Psychopaths that movie that looks bonkers, but awesome? Oh, yes it is! *watches clip* Whoa, okay, I really have to see that movie now.

As for Funny Games, wow, I'm thinking two characters from The Following had to have been inspired by the crazies in this movie. Looks a little bit extreme, though. I have to be really, really invested to get through something like that.

I've only seen clips of Seven Psychopaths myself, but yeah, it looks awesome. I actually rented it once and never got around to being able to watch it somehow. Need to get on that.

Not familiar with The Following, but I wouldn't doubt it. That pairing of Two Young, Preppy Boys Team Up For Homicide has been done several times, thanks to the infamous real-life crime duo of Leopold and Loeb. They did it for Hitchcock's The Rope, Murder By Numbers, both versions of Funny Games, and a few other things I'm not thinking of I'm sure.

But yeah, i wouldn't recommend it to everyone. It's deliberately unpleasant. But in a good way? I have reviewed it, if it makes a difference: http://candycorncomm.livejournal.com/90864.html
