I honestly have NO IDEA why Stevens wanted to leave. (I'm under the impression period drama isn't his cup of tea? If so, that's amazing, considering how well he carries the role of ye olde gentlemane.) If it's because he wanted to try something new after three years, then that I can sort of understand, even if I think DA is worth sticking with far longer than three years.
I don't think so! He's been in at least 3 other ones and is in talks (apparently) for another one! I really don't understand why he wanted to leave, really.
He's in talks for another period drama? That's good--if he's not going to be in DA, it must be something as similar as humanly possible. Should we be mean and wish a whole lot of new roles that are basically a re-hash of Matthew on him? Part of me wants to, part of me doesn't.
All I know is, no matter what, if they ever do another Phantom of the Opera movie, I want him as the Phantom, if he can sing. :D
Yeah, Death Comes to Pemberley - if he gets the part of Mr. Darcy I'll be very, very unhappy because he just isn't right. LOL, I'm so bitter I want his career to flop horribly so he always regrets leaving DA...
Really? You think he would be right? I don't think he can sing so we're saved there, haha!
Oh, they're making a movie of that? Hmmm. I like mystery, but not played out with Austen characters. (I think I'm one of the few period fans that didn't even bother reading the book.)
I almost want his career to flop, too, but not entirely. Maybe just enough to give him a touch of humility? ;)
I think if he could sing, he'd be amazing as the Phantom. During Season 2, when Matthew wasn't able to walk and practically hated everything about everything, he showed he was very good at playing a man steeped in bitterness. (Which, I think, is the very essence of the Phantom, with musical flair and other talents thrown in.)
If you could sum up the Phantom in a few words, how would you describe him?
I guess! I haven't heard anything concrete yet so it might come to nothing. I didn't read the book either but I admit I am pretty curious to see if it could be pulled off. I think it's next to impossible to write Jane Austen's characters in anything else but their own stories!
I would be happy with that :P
Hmm, that's very interesting. He's definitely got the scowl but for some reason I see him as a bit too pouty to be the brooding Phantom...
I guess I think if him as more sinister, twisted, yet vulnerable... It would take a very skilled person to portray him again!

Exactly so. Maybe Stevens has it, maybe not. I wonder . . .
