My favourite hand too. I really do like copperplate (meh on the Spencerian, though it's passable) but italic is just so elegant. I love it. *explodes in calligraphic feelings all over your post*

YES I agree totally about the stories - I don't want life-in-suburbia! I don't want depressing Medical Issues Take Down Family! I want spaceships or magic or history or something, anything, even if it's just squids at high school. Anything but the mundane.

That is one freaky dream :O

And now your calligraphy gushing is encouraging me to work on my calligraphy again. I did it for school, because my Mom required us all to work on penmanship, but I slipped out of practice after a while. Need to get back to it!

Anything but the mundane.

AMEN! Mundane is for real life (sometimes). Fantasy and make-believe is supposed to be just that--fantasy and make-believe. No reality, no rules.

YESSS. My solution is to basically keep a fountain pen with a replaceable cartridge on my desk/in my bag when I go out. Actually sitting down and like, doing practice seems so daunting when I don't have time (ink! water to wash off! nibs! RULING LINES, THE BANE OF MY LIFE, etc) always mean I don't really practice as much as I should. But just scribbling a couple words to practice when I feel the urge to procrastinate is totally doable when it's just a fountain pen.

This is why I now have random words scribbled all over my studying, in case anyone asks >.>

Go sf/f & history! I'm with you, I can't pick anymore.

Oh my, that's a great idea! The new part-time job I just got sometimes has only 5 minutes to spare here and there, but it's perfect for practicing calligraphy. *is inspired*

Why choose one, when you can choose BOTH? :D

omg yes, I think my favourite genre right now is historical fantasy, but it's so hard to find ;_; I usually end up with high fantasy with quasi-sorta-maybe-ish-medieval setting (HA HA HA) or just straight up historical.

Agreed! There needs to be more of it in this world! I might do something about that, if and when I ever get published. My current WIP (which is moving along at a snail's pace) is a (very dark) historical fantasy. :D

Ohhh cool! When/where is it set? What sort of fantasy elements? (You don't have to say if you don't want to, I'm just curious always about these sorts of projects :D)

Oh, I'm happy to ramble about my book--it's my baby, and I'm very proud of it, even if it drives me crazy and I don't work on it as often as I should. Basically, I wished one day that Twilight was really all about Legolas Greenleaf shooting Edward Cullen full of arrows. So I decided to write a story about a band of half-elves that hunt vampires in midwestern America in the early 1880s. :D (Somehow, sorceresses worked their way into the story, too, so there's a lot going on.)

WHY IS THIS NOT A THING ALREADY

If I can maintain time/discipline/creativity, I fully intend to make this a thing. :D
