I bought a
Nikon D70s today. >_<
Solely for the purpose of lessons of course. No kidding. :X And I'm planning to use it for my final-year project...
And so, this morning at 10.30am, I went to the shop with 4 other classmates to get a D70s each. We're buying in bulk -- 10 pieces in all. And I found out that Jean Paul (not his real name) is also getting one after all, haha. Despite his grouses and all. XD
When I held the camera and tested it at the shop this morning, I suddenly felt really excited? Haha. The feeling was just different from holding the one I borrowed from school. It's still a little bit...
bizarre. I've always liked photography a lot, if I may say so myself. But I never saw myself getting a digital SLR anytime soon, especially not when I consider myself an entry level photographer.
I had totally expected to buy a film camera, which costs less than one-third the price of a digital one, since the course has always been a strictly film-camera course. But I guess our tutor is opening more options for us now since he acknowledges that just about every newsroom uses digital photography these days. And we're after all not a photography appreciation class. Having said that, there are a lot of people who will still be using film for the course.
I did some (mental) calculations and I think a film camera is not too cost effective. For a low start up cost, the marginal cost never diminishes. But the marginal cost diminishes for a digital SLR. And I'm not going to factor in the electricity bills for my computer and whatnot because in all actuality, my computer will be switched on regardless of whether I'm using a digital or film camera. :X Of course, I could still go on and on about why I decided to go digital. (And there really are many, many reasons -- since I took two weeks to consider this.)
One day, out of the blue and a few days after I told my mum about my dilemma between a film and a digital, she said: "I think it's better to get a digital camera. Don't buy film camera lah."
What else do I have left to say. Haha. <-- is weak-willed.
I'd still really love to be able to do film photography. I hope I have the chance to! It's inexplicable, but I think film photos just have this je ne sais quoi quality (for want of a better description) to it.
Oops, Midori's still in the same everything since the last time you saw her. Anyway, this was taken this morning before I went out. I used the kit I borrowed from school and quickly snapped a few pictures because... who can resist morning light? :D I love the soft richness of the colours. I think morning light gives resin a beautiful sheen! (Sounds like a pun, this.)
I haven't really got the hang of The New Toy, which is a 6.1 mpx by the way... a little lower than what I would have liked for a digital SLR but I think it's all right. And anyway, just in case you're wondering, the main reason I bought a Nikon is that the school has an array of Nikon lenses for us to use. >:D
After that, armed with two D70s (we brought the school's kit out in case we wanted to take pictures), hucks and I went cycling. We rode a double bike for the first time today. XD I think the
last time I rode one was more than a year ago, when I was ferrying momingeek and it rained very heavily. Today, I just took the back seat and relaxed. Totally my idea of fun. XD
I haven't gone running since Wednesday because of lots of disruptions to our plans. *feels unhealthy* Production, cameras and whathaveyou. I think I need to go again soon! *tries to be enthusiastic*
On a totally separate note, if anyone were to ask me what I'm excited about recently, I think it would have to be the upcoming Nana movie. The excitement's finally culminating into a sort of high since the opening is near and they're releasing lots of new merchandise and songs now. :D I have no idea when I would finally be able to watch it since it only opens on Sept 3 in Japan. But it's all right. I can't wait! *determined* I think Nakashima Mika so totally rocks. :D
