I don't remember if "going to more concerts" was on my list of New Year's resolutions, but I've been to quite a few concerts so far and, damn, it still feels good. I also have to thank my colleagues who gave me a "virtual gift card" to use on a ticket website, so my last two concerts (and the Harry Potter exhibition) were basically free.
Yesterday I saw Franz Ferdinand and The National at Milano Rocks, a newish festival that takes place in Milan, and it was an amazing night. I have to admit I didn't know The National and only went to see Franz Ferdinand, but both concerts were great.
Franz Ferdinand opened with "Do you want to", with Alex Kapranos demanding we sing along " Più forte" ("louder") and closed their show with "This fire", during which Alex knelt down and made all the audience crouch down as well. Of course I immediately thought back of Die Ärzte, who made us do the same during "Junge". *sigh*
EDIT: WTF, was it during "Junge" or during "Unrockbar"? How can I not remember?!
END EDIT
After The National, I bought some water and was going to have a look at the merchandise stand, when I heard someone say: "That's Alex Kapranos!" I turned, and saw him standing maybe two meters away from me! He was taking pictures with fans, but he was probably tired, after a minute or two he said "Sorry, no more photos." Still, he stayed and shook hands and chatted (while trying to slowly make his way towards wherever he was going). At one point he started signing autographs and I thought "Too bad I don't have anything he can sign", before I realised he was signing concert tickets. D'oh. So I got my ticket signed too and even managed to take two pictures (not with him, just of him). He asked us if we had liked the show and finally managed to go.
That was the perfect ending to a great night, I grinned all the way back home (even if I was dead tired and at one point I thought I was going to fall asleep on the metro.)
I'll need to check out when Muse are going on tour, but I'm afraid getting decent tickets will be almost impossible, just like for Depeche Mode. Oh, well, we'll see. At the moment I'm just enjoying my post-concert good mood and not thinking about the next three weeks, which are going to be the busiest of the year at work.
