Seeing as Google images was full of fail with the last photo set I posted up, I created a Flickr account to post images up to instead. I'm trying to streamline my process some, and have found that Picasa with the new plug-in API is actually a very useful tool. If anyone wants links to the Flickr uploader and GIMP launcher I'm using, let me know, ( Read more... )

Once I can justify purchasing Lightroom, I'll probably be less of a fan of Picasa myself. As is, it's kind of annoying to have to keep bouncing into GIMP every time I want to adjust curves. At least its auto color correction is about as decent on their its pass as I am, but I hope that will eventually change, too.

I'm going to give this open source alternative a try out tonight, although it seems to be a couple years behind the times. If only I had free time to program again, I'd make an effort to help out. :-/

The lens is a Super Takumar 55mm f/1.8 that I grabbed off eBay on the suggestion of neurobeat. I've really enjoyed the lens, but I've only picked this whole thing up again about two weeks ago, so you might want to trust her opinion more than mine. ;-) She did get some great runway shots with it, even with a teleconverter, not too long ago. Some of the designers were pricks and she pulled them down just to avoid the headache, but you might be able to get her to share them anyways if you want to see better-qualified samples. You ( ... )

That's the lens I want to get eventually! This one has really cool bokeh though, so I'll probably keep it around even if I do get the Canon, just so I have more options depending on what I'm shooting. I also want to get some of the Tamron 2.8 lenses out there, but everything is so cost-prohibitive. :-/

Yeah, it's "photo management" is still something new for me, but I figured if I was starting fresh, why not? You should check out Lightroom though; I don't know what options it has for an uploader, but the guy who sold me had the app and showed me it for a little while. It was really impressive, with version 2, what it's able to do with shadow and color adjustments in almost zero time. It might even make it worth putting up with the annoying photo manager interface. ;-)

Gah, I hate iTunes. Unfortunately there's not much else that does AAC, so I'm stuck using that, too. :-/ What I wouldn't give for an affordable high-capacity SSD and a decent FLAC ripper. I can totally see that analogy through; there really is no music collection software that is actually engineered for people who are sincerely interesting in music in a more than casual way.

I'll watch your Flickr account for pictures with that lens. It sounds like a lot of fun.
