Part One -
Part Two Brendon walks up to Spencer and crosses his arms. “You can’t leave us, dude!” He exclaims.
Ryan is back in work and Christmas is this Friday. The party is on Thursday and Spencer is going out of town to visit his family back home and won’t be back until Sunday. He is leaving the whole party up to Frank, Ryan, and Jon. Brendon is trying to convince Spencer to stay. Orders from Ryan. Ryan hates planning parties and Frank is too occupied with Gerard to help. And whenever you ask Jon for something or advice, he says, “I don’t care, whatever you want.” So technically the whole party is being planned by Ryan, with help from Brendon.
Spencer sighs and lays a hand on Brendon’s shoulder. “You guys will do fine. A little Christmas party without me will be fine. Just don’t forget to put up the mistletoe; I bought that for a reason.”
Brendon pouts and wraps his arms around Spencer. “Please stay?”
Spencer shoves Brendon off. “I’m leaving.” And then walks out the door to his car.
Brendon frowns. Spencer is the only one who is immune to Brendon’s cuteness.
“Ryan!” Brendon yells, skipping into the kitchen. “Spencer left!”
Ryan sighs and rubs his temples. “Damn, damn, damn.”
Brendon bites his lip and drags his toe in a circle on the floor. “It’s okay. I’ll help. We’ll have the best party ever.” Brendon blinks twice and Ryan smiles and ruffles Brendon’s hair.
“Okay.”
---
“So, Spencer left.” Frank mentions Tuesday morning as he is unlocking the door to the bakery. Gerard is standing next to him. Gerard usually hangs out at the bakery until nine, when his shift starts at Target.
“So I heard.” Gerard nods.
Frank gets the door open and lets Gerard go in first, being the gentleman he is. Gerard smiles at Frank as he passes and sits down at a table, watching Frank fuss about at the register, making sure nothing got stolen and that everything is clean and orderly.
Frank looks up and smiles charmingly. “You know, you could help us with the party….”
Gerard really can’t resist that, but also he has nothing better to do in his free time. “Sure.” He shrugs.
Frank smiles and throws a cookie at Gerard from the glass display case. “Good boy.”
Gerard laughs and shoves the cookie in his mouth, chewing and swallowing.
“So, are you going with anybody to the party on Thursday?” Gerard questions, trying to be nonchalant.
Frank purses his lips and crosses his arms. “I don’t think so. But I might ask someone.”
Gerard’s face literally falls. “Oh. Who?”
Frank smiles and spins around to sit on the counter. “Oh, just this really awesome guy I met a while ago.” Frank hops off the counter and walks over to Gerard sitting on his lap.
“And who is that?” Gerard pushes, biting his lip in anticipation.
Frank leans down and whispers in Gerard’s ear. “Um…you? Maybe?”
Gerard smiles and explodes with joy. “Oh really?”
Frank laughs and leans down to place a sloppy kiss on Gerard’s cheek before hopping back to the kitchen.
“Get to work, you fool.” Frank yells from his station. Gerard smiles and shakes his head, walking out the door.
---
Ryan walks in with Brendon trailing behind him sometime later. Brendon doesn’t care if he is late for work or not, he always walks Ryan to work.
Ryan places his coat and scarf on the hanger and grabs his apron, tying it around his waist.
When he walks into the kitchen, Frank immediately grabs Ryan’s hand and spins him around.
“Ryan! I have a date to the party!” Frank sings, twirling Ryan around like a doll.
Brendon shoots out and grabs Ryan’s waist, pulling him close. “Mine.” He mumbles to Frank.
Frank laughs and nods. “Yours.” But then grabs his cell phone out and shows a picture of him and Gerard laughing. He points to Gerard. “Mine.”
Brendon squeals and hugs Frank. “Yay!” He squeaks.
Ryan shakes his head but smiles, tugging Brendon off of Frank. “Get to work, Bren.”
Brendon salutes and scrambles off.
Once Brendon is gone, Frank turns to Ryan. “Now you and Brendon need to get together and then we can double date!”
Ryan frowns and huffs. “Shut the fuck up.”
Frank shrugs and goes on singing some mushy love song.
Ryan groans and throws an egg at Frank, getting gooey shit in his ear. Frank whines and stops singing.
“Grouch.” He mumbles as he walks past Ryan.
---
When Brendon comes on his break, he goes straight up to Ryan.
“Hi, Ryan!” Brendon says happily.
Ryan tries not to smile
“Brendon,” He says back, softly.
“I can’t wait for the party! We’re going to have so much fun!” Brendon says, gripping Ryan’s sleeve excitedly.
Ryan nods quickly. “Um, you should get back to work; I have a lot of stuff to get done.”
Brendon shakes his head. “My break isn’t over. I’ll just stay and watch?” Brendon asks tentatively.
Ryan shrugs and turns around to grab some bowls, biting back a smile.
Damn this boy, Ryan thinks longingly.

That night, Spencer calls Ryan from his home town.
“Aw! You and Bren!” Is the first thing out of Spencer’s mouth once Ryan says, ‘Hello?’
Ryan sighs. “Shut up, I’m only going to this thing with him so he doesn’t sulk all the time, not because I actually like him.”
“But, dude. You do.” Spencer points out.
“Fuck you,” Ryan hisses.
“Yes you do. Remember that cupcake incident?”
Ryan literally growls. “I thought we agreed to never bring up that incident again?”
Spencer huffs. “This is an exception. You’re just in denial.”
“Screw you I’m not in denial.”
Spencer is about to say something when Ryan cuts him off.
“Shhhtttt….Spencer? Shhhtttt….I think we…sshhhttt… are breaking…..sshhhttt up! Bye.” And then proceeds to hang up on his best friend and boss.
That night, Ryan doesn’t sleep at all.
