You do bring up a very good point and I like that indeed. However, to answer your questions I shall explain in detal.
It does not bother me if a Christan does not respect my believes and I never wish to force it to anyone to do so, however, that is something that everyday people seem to be having trouble doing.
Point two: If religion is person, then why do they go door to door, doing missionaries, and preaching their word to others? Sounds like it is not so personal.
Indeed, there are good people out there that do good deeds and help others in the name of God. But come on, how many times do they help and then talk about something stupid the next day? They want to put a good image out there, but it all the same, control.
On the countray, christians do shove their religion down other people throats, especially saying things that they think are sin and then the one that angers me the most. "God watch over our troops while they kill, and God bless our troops"
My favorite, the fear of the made up hell. This is the number one topic that they bring up, oh yes, they bring this up regardless of what they say or do. Don't believe me, what your savior, pat robertson. He says that God personally told bush to go to war.
I wasn't logged in when I posted this. Sorry bout that... "Point two: If religion is person, then why do they go door to door, doing missionaries, and preaching their word to others? Sounds like it is not so personal." It's part of their religion to minister to people. Like Jesus saught out the miserable people to heal them, except these people aren't Jesus so they don't do such a good job, but I am pretty certain that there's virtue behind their actions. "But come on, how many times do they help and then talk about something stupid the next day? They want to put a good image out there, but it all the same, control."
Ok, going to a church doesn't mean you are perfect. We all have very base animal instincts, to kill and fuck everything we want. To covet things, it's our spirituality and morals that keep us from doing what animals do, atleast that's the only logic I can find. People pray for strength to be better people. That's what happens in churches. Not all churches are anti-gay either, some ministers are very good explaining why God doesn't smile on homosexuality, the main reason being that he wants us to have children, because children are a great source of joy. Also what would happen to society? As in the human race would die out. Sexual organs are designed for reproducing. I have a ton of gay friends and I'm all for live and let live but the reason that Christians view this as a sin is because it goes against God's will, he wants people to procreate.
As for your mention of the ten commandments: Adultery is a sin because of the pain it causes for spouses and children. Premarital sex and promiscuity lead to a great deal of disease and unwanted children. It is not that God doesn't want you to have sex, monogamy and commitment play the role of bringing up children with love. Stealing, murdering, those are considered wrong in most religions.
"On the countray, christians do shove their religion down other people throats, especially saying things that they think are sin and then the one that angers me the most." Just because you go to church doesn't make you automatically smart. Some people do that, some have good intentions as in they care for your fate, some do it because they're old and grumpy. Either way generalizing people is a lot like saying that all black people are stupid, all white people are rich, all people who wear black worship Satan. You can't stop them from generalizing, but you can decide not to be one of them.
"God watch over our troops while they kill, and God bless our troops" Please see my most recent post about this one...
"My favorite, the fear of the made up hell." I think that hell is a metaphorical place. I've seen the hell of alcoholism, the hell of adultery, the hell of knowing a person who was murdered. There are many realms of hell, if you avoid certain actions you won't be subjected to the mental torment that is the result. That's my view on hell, I am not trying to shove it down your throat just trying show you other angles, please don't think I'm being pushy.

I don't like Pat Robertson, and even if I did how would he know what God told Bush? God doesn't really talk to very many people. Pat Robertson is full of shit.
