We got up Thursday morning and were knocking around the house. We needed to go out for a few things so we decided to do all the running early so we had the rest of the day to do whatever. The first stop was the craft store. Mark said he'd wait in the car. I told him he could wait in the car but every other place I wanted to go, he had to go in with me. I ran in and grabbed a few things I needed. Except for the modeling paste. Yikes! I decided it was better to go to Home Depot and get some joint compound or Flexall. I passed by an aisle with the paper mache stuff. It was all 50% off. I found a cute little purse shaped box. They had a roundish box with a clasp that could be used as a purse. They had 3 of them and not a price on any of them. I get up to the register with it. They don't have a scanner. Bizarre. I never noticed before. She asks some weary looking man to go do a price check. I tell him none of them have a price. He says "2.99!" That's perfectly okay with me. I figured it was 5.99. So with the markdown, it was $1.50.
We noticed a new pet place of to the side of the craft store. They have a better selection and better prices than the other places. The people were super nice too. Mark spotted a castle with a little gargoyle. It had to come home with us. We'll have to do some rearranging in the tank but it was too adorable to pass up.
We stopped in O'Henry's for lunch. Man, did we ever pick the wrong day and the wrong time! It was noon and they only had two servers. The manager was waiting tables to help out. We went to upper deck and picked a table. The day was absolutely beautiful. The weather was perfect. The manager came up and apologized for the delays. I told him it was fine, we have nowhere to go and all day to get there. Mark ordered some kind of wrap sandwich and got the fish with the crawfish remoulade.
We were heading to the pet store but stopped in Target first. I wanted to get a pair of sunglasses and a set of glasses to replace the ones that got broken. While looking at sunglasses, Mark noticed a belt that would look great with the PVC coat. So in the cart it went. I looked at some earrings but passed on them. I buy cheap earrings sometimes but I have to swap out the earwires for sterling silver ones so my ears don't get irritated. The sunglasses were dismal. I found two I liked. Mark said "Get them both!" We started toward housewares but ended up in lingerie. Many things found themselves in the cart. There might have been more except for the conspiracy against women with anything larger than a 34B. I saw a darling little top and before I could say anything, Mark tossed it in. I couldn't find a set of 4 glasses like the ones I wanted. They had a set of 12. I don't really have room for all of them but what the hell. Mark found a set of glasses he wanted. I was trying to ignore the bath section. Mark walked right into it. So new towels joined the rest of the stuff. We wound up with 4 giant bags of stuff when all I went in there for was sunglasses!
Then it was off to the big pet store. Some of the fish we bought croaked. I will not be buying fish from there again. We will be going to the newly discovered store. The people at the big pet store wanted to be turds about their guarantee. Our water is perfection, we have an RO unit, and I test the water all the time. It's not our water, it's your crappy fish. We finally got them to mark the receipt for the fish but the line at the register was so long, we just left.
Right next door to the pet store is a shoe store. I'd been bitching about my shoes all day. I have oodles of dressy shoes and two pair of sneakers. Nothing in between. Mark was pointing in the direction of the car but followed me into the shoe store. Good thing too. You need a second opinion. I saw a ton of dressy shoes that I loved, the not so dressy selection wasn't so hot. I was ready to give up when Mark "There's more over here!" I ended up getting the ones he picked out. They are so soft and comfy but pretty and sexy. Those qualities don't usually come in the same package. So after totaling up the expenditures for our little expedition, maybe it is better to leave Mark in the car!
Yesterday I made some stuff from plaster. A hand and a face. The hand is mostly done but I'll be working a lot on the face this week. I want to do another hand with a different style but use them both as bookends. I haven't nailed down what the end result of the face will be yet but it will have polymer clay, feathers, and beads.
I need to work on the hats some too, before I head off to Florida for a week. I want to go see my best friend/cousin, hit the flea market, and make a special trip to go see the gourd lady. There are NO flea markets around here. That's so weird. I miss spending my Saturday mornings at the flea market. The craft store here sells smallish gourds for $10 each. Ha! Do you know how many great gourds I can get from the gourd lady for $10? 10! The smallish ones are 50 cents! Mark said he wanted to go with me to Florida but on a weekend. We could get a hotel in
St. Augustine and just have the kids come there. We could hang out in the pool, go to the beach, and the go to the MUST see - the lighthouse. And the cemeteries! Can't forget the cemeteries. There's no place else in the United States with grave so old. Then there's the Castillo, not that you could miss it. And we have to eat at the Santa Maria. The food is mediocre and the service is usually lacking but I like watching the dolphins and dropping my leftovers down the hatch to fish below.
Well, gots stuff to do.
