Chaos' (mildly) Roman Adventures

Aug 11, 2010 00:38

Monday, mother and I went to Fishbourne Roman Palace, because I haven't been there since I was about 3foot tall (no, that was not yesterday) and mother has never been.
Being too early in the morning, I can't tell you anything about the palace itself, because through most of the museum, I was still asleep. I recall muttering something in the defense of the Emperor Nero, if only because I love him muchly and laughing at how they put "phallus" so all the school children who go there would not understand.
And then I got the camera out 8D

So basically, the best preserved mosaic at the palace, and maybe even in England. It is beautiful, and amazing to think it was just under a sheep field for two thousand years.

It's a dead guy. He had a silly expression and no hands and parts of his feet were missing. It was strange.

One of the oldest mosaics in England, apparently.

And that's the entire north wing (the only bit they were able to salvage) from in front of the caldarium. And oh, the ideas that gave me.... for another time, perhaps.

A view of the complex from the display garden. What a rarely nice day it was.

So nice I just had to take a picture of the sky! IT'S BLUE! NOT GREY! And look at those WHITE clouds!

And now to my favourite type of photography: plant photography.

That's mother who decided to walk past. Doesn't effect the over-all aesthetic too badly, I think.

And to close, a photo appreciating the good old English Bumblebee, because they're dying out D':
