A couple of weeks ago, I made
this post.
Well, it seems that I stand corrected, LOL. Totally forgot about Eames's shirt from the second level!
Someone posted these
amazing caps on Tumblr, and like HOLY SHIT ALL THE PAISLEY IS ON ARTHUR'S LEVEL.
WHICH KIND OF MEANS THAT ARTHUR IS THE ONE WHO LOVES A GOOD PAISLEY, SINCE IT'S HIS SUBCONSCIOUS DRESSING EVERYONE????? I think he probably just thinks Eames prefers looking like a pimp from Miami. XD
The downside to the discussion-and yeah, this is rant territory, sorry... ):-is that, inevitably, some people seem to be taking this really seriously?? As in, ruffled feathers. There are now several srs bznz analysis of Arthur and Eames's wardrobe, which is fine. Except a couple of them are sort of... How should I say this, LOL. Very opinionated in a fashion-oriented manner? In a way that seems less about characterization and more about people's own sartorial sensibilities.
x.x I'll be frank, okay, I DON'T UNDERSTAND.
It's a fabric pattern. Use it in your fic, don't use it in your fic, why does this even bear serious discussion? Paisley isn't the only loud print in existence. And canonically, it's used pretty sparingly. No matter how you look at it, it's kind of pointless defending paisley as an aspect of characterization (except, apparently, when it comes to Arthur, LOL), because it's just not that prevalent in the source material. Also, it's... It's just not really an intellectual convo, you know what I mean?? x.x
And like, isn't this kind of the point of fic to begin with?? I read because I like seeing what other people think, but that doesn't mean I'm going to buy into all their angles for my own writing, and it doesn't mean that I should. Whether or not I think Eames would normally dress well is my choice as the writer, depending on how I'm framing the fic. I don't see the point of lecturing people about something that's more or less an issue of personal preference or otherwise completely contextual.
alksdnlksn Okay, sorry, that's been bothering me for awhile. ): It's always so curious, discovering the idiosyncrasies of new fandoms, LOL.
