Look, it's a con post!
Okay, so the lovely Maggie's LJ post reminded me that I should really get out in front of this bus to give everyone the heads up that we are more than likely not going to Otakon this year. :( For quite a while now, we've been itching to go see Dragoncon but had never been able to because 1) the labor day weekend timing sucks for school schedules, and 2) Dragoncon and Otakon are usually too close to each other for us to want to go to both.
More and more we've begun to realize that we just don't enjoy anime con programming anymore, maybe through a combination of not really being invested in any recent series, and also just a lack of good programming in general. Instead we go to hang out with friends and cosplay it up a bit. And to also get drunk and make penisface jokes for a year and a frigging half. Dragoncon sounds like a fun change that's more in line with what we're currently interested in, so we'll see how it goes this year.
Cosplay will be fun times mcgee, of the WoWish variety. blinkidybah is going as Sylvanas, and I'll be doing Tamuura, this sweetass draenei lady (I'm super excited to make the legs). If Eve ends up tagging along, she wants to go as Sally McSlutty Whitemane in a big hat. Not quite sure what the other day's worth of costumes will be, although there is much clamoring for a Dexter's Laboratory group with big, crazy wigs.
That being SAID, I had booked no less than three hotels at con rate during the psycho-booking rush in August, before we were certain about this. Two are at the Hilton Baltimore for $185/night, and one is at the Renaissance Harborplace Hotel for $195 a night. So if anyone is interested in taking over those reservations before I cancel, please let me know so that I can transfer one or more to you!
The only other con I know that we're going to is Anime Boston, mostly to hang out with people there, do the ball thing, take a peek at Rob's event thing, and EAT A VERMONSTER. This is happening. Fo sho. The Ben and Jerry's in the Pru serves these things and so in a flashback to Bakuretsucon '05 we are eating one! PIGGY PIGGY PIGGY TIEMZ. Who's with me??
