I am currently on a major, major Hamlet kick, and it's resulting in all sorts of inane doodles popping up, among other things. Again, this is mostly the fault of
blinkidybah's Shakespeare class, but HOMG, Hamlet. <3 <3 You are so wangsty, yet so goddamn funny at the saaammee tiiiime. Once Scone gets in on Friday, we have plans to watch Kenneth Branagh's version (much love), Ethan Hawke's "version," (Ughhhhhggblugh. She has to watch it for class, and it's really a shame that the movie has good good moments but is completely overshadowed by the lead sucking so goddamn badly), and an older BBC production that I've never seen in which Derek Jacobi is Hamlet (gawd, he looks so young) and Lalla Ward (Romana II) is Ophie.
Of course, I still want to see
Ingmar Bergman's 1986 theater production like nobody's fucking business. Srsly, guys. Srsly. The final scene where Fortinbras's men storm in, firing machine guns and throwing grenades? Where they drag Horatio offstage and execute him, before Fortinbras delivers the final speech about recording history and 'how it happened' now that everyone is dead?? WHAT. WHAT. I don't care that the whole thing is in Swedish, I want to see it naoz. I am having zero luck finding a recording though, although apparently they had special showings after Bergman's death, so the goddamn thing exists somewhere. Waaauauuughhghghgg. It'd probably help if I could search in Swedish though.
ETA: Just bitched about this to my sister, who responded by searching across some nationwide university library system called Worldcat. Where it does not exist. She's also suggested that they might just be restricting it to film festivals and showings, since clearly people need to be artsy snobs about this kind of shit. Ugh.
Also, in Reganland,
Viola of Twelfth Night is a hottie.
Man. I really want a Hamlet icon now too. Add that to the damn list. And because I'm sure all of you love hearing me blab about Hamlet, here's an unrelated meme:
1. Pick 10 of your favorite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Fill in the film title once it's guessed.
5. NO googling/using IMDb search functions. I made these pretty obvious IMO, anyway XP
