i can't believe that it is nearly 16 years since marc lepine walked into the universite de montreal with a rifle, separated the men from the women, and shot 14 women dead, yelling that he hated feminists, because he did not get into the engineering program.
ironically, it was because of that event that i became a feminist,grappling to understand why it happened, realizing the pervasiveness of sexism in our culture, and coming to understand patriarchy as a system rather than just looking at violence against womyn as random, isolated, senseless acts.
has anyone heard anything about this year's vigils or actions?
