United lives down to my expectations

When I last posted, we were waiting for the mechanics to fix the problem on the plane we'd boarded. Shortly after that they gave up and stqrted looking for another plane. A little while after that they cancelled the flight entirely. So now it's an hour and a half after the scheduled departure time and there's 300 grumpy people queued up at the customer service desk. People are muttering to each other about United having no more available flights today. Joy. I asked diskerror to stand in line while I called the specialty bereavement travel agent for help, as instructed on our itinerary printout. The travel agent explained that he couldn't actually reticket us, since we were in mid-journey, but he could reserve seats for us on the 8pm flight and the ticket agents could take it from there. Cool. Standing in that long line was a lot less frustrating with the problem already solved.

When it was finally my turn, I greeted the agent with a big smile and the locator code for the new reservation. After she'd taken care of things and we had our boarding passes, I asked if we could get dinner vouchers for our trouble. Two $10 vouchers coming up. Amazing what a sincere smile will get you. So we've been fed and are now waiting for our turn to board the plane. United's ticket agents are stellar, though that still doesn't make up for the suckage of their maintenance crews.
