If you build yourself a PC using an ASUS M4A785-M motherboard and load OpenSolaris on it, you will have to disable the HDMI output that is part of the onboard video hardware if you want gstreamer to behave properly or the system to find the rear line-out jack (it found the front line-in jack just fine). I will probably file a bug report with OpenSolaris, and maybe gstreamer.net. The Ubuntu OpenSound docs say that there are jack sensing problems with "Azalia-compliant" HD devices, which this sound h/w is. I suspect it's an OS issue, since I was having that problem without gstreamer in the loop.
