Holy cow 11 miles is  a lot!

I took the bus to the lakefront trail up by Bryn Mawr yesterday. This is where they start counting off mileage, so i thought that was an appropriate place to start. I walked all the way down to Fullerton. To those of you not in Chicago, this is going from  approximately 5200 north to 2400 north. Approximately 42 blocks or 5 1/2 miles. Then I turned around and walked back. This whole trek took me about 3 1/2 hours from start to finish. And it was COLD. My hands were freezing pretty much the whole way. I was passed by many runners and people on bicycles who looked at me like I had two heads because of the skull handkerchief I had covering my face at one point because the wind was so strong, and I was getting pelted by snow flurries.

The way back was brutal. It went by much faster than the way down, or so it seemed, but I should have taken more breaks on the way down, or slowed it down a little. I also should have brought something to eat too. A bottle of gatorade would have helped a lot too. I drank 4 bottles of water, but my stomach started growling on the way back, and all I could think of was going to 7-11 to get a protein bar. I know i was weaving a little on the trail, and my muscles were not happy with me. Surprisingly, my feet never hurt. My knees didn't even really have a problem with all of this. I know at one point in time I had the thought of just walking to Sheridan road and hailing a cab with 2 miles to go. Those last two miles seemed like an eternity.

But I did it!!!

Last night  I sat  on my couch after sitting in my jacuzzi tub for a few minutes. I needed ibuprofin to help dull some of the inflammation pain. This morning my feet hurt. My big toes feel like they don't want to move in their joints. I'm sure that ibuprofin and anti-inflammatories will be my best friend today.

You know what? This is nothing compared to what I watched my Mom go through. I'll heal. I can deal with a few aches and pains to help prevent this from happening to many other people.

I still need your help to make my goals. If you can spare anything I would greatly appreciate it. Every dollar counts. Please visit my homepage at least to see how I've updated it and how I'm doing.
