A little about me
1. I enjoy photography, if nothing more than the fact that pictures capture those beautiful, wonderful moments that you can look back on and say, “Yeah, I was happy.”
2. I am told that I get ‘disproportionally excited’ about the smallest of events. Apparently, it creates an aura of happiness, which in turn, makes others feel more exuberant. (Though, still, nowhere near the levels that I am.)
3. When I am very upset, my texts become practically illegible, foregoing grammar and spelling in the most desperate attempt to share my emotions; however, I am trying to change this. Who knows if it will be to my benefit?
4. I often say ‘I love you’ to those I care about, because experience has taught me that even the memory of hearing those three tiny words can make a world of difference on the darkest of days.
5. I have three major fears --- abandonment, being buried alive, and cows. I’m still not sure how they connect, because when it comes to fears, something has to be the common thread…right?
6. I don’t believe in karma, because what goes around rarely comes around; at least, not in the timely manner that one expects (wants).
7. If I was somehow forced to choose one television show to continue for all of eternity, I would choose The West Wing, because the world needs more good writing and idealistic hope. (Besides, it is my favorite show. If it can stay as wonderful, why should it end?)
8. I decided to study the Chinese language on a whim, shortly after I realized that high school ruined French for me. I’m still unsure as to whether or not I regret that decision. Time will tell.
9. It took me years to admit it, but every college or university that I visited would be mentally compared to the University of Kentucky. There’s a reason I’m not at Centre or Hanover, and that is because UK felt like home
10. I really have no idea as to why I started my little hobby, but I take down humorous quotes my friends say. Maybe it’s the journalist in me, maybe I like a reminder of fun times being had. What I do know, is that when people read the quotes, it makes them smile, and that is what ultimately matters.
11. Sometimes, I really cannot understand why others can’t remember situations as easily as I can. I suppose it comes from the fact that I am far too accustomed to my abilities to recall exact conversations, time of day, and clothes worn months after the fact. There is a reason my memory has been referred to as ‘freakish’.
12. I am fascinated with Holocaust history, and have willingly read some of the darker memoirs recalling the event. I am drawn to the strength of those who survived, and humbled by the horrors they experienced. If they could survive a living hell, whatever trials I face, I can overcome. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that.
13. I first started paying attention to sports as a way to forge a bond between me and my father, but the more I began to watch, the more I fell in love. I realized that I was actually good at analyzing games, especially college basketball, and that I had a gift for guessing who was going to win. For the past eight years, I have correctly called the Super Bowl winner, and in the ’10 NCAA Tournament, every upset in the first round.
14. I believe that time is the most powerful force there is. Time heals all wounds, yet it can also reopen them. It always marches on, an unstoppable force, and until one can accept time, they won’t truly be happy.
15. I have a great dislike of ranking things. I feel at given times, whatever is being ranked has certain facets that fulfill certain situations that a simple number cannot justify. What makes something better than the other? Number one or number two? I just really don’t like subjective rankings.
16. My favorite holiday is Christmas, followed by the Fourth of July. The common bond is simple and beautiful - love.
18. I’ve been asked many times by foreigners if I am a natural born American. Apparently, the amalgamation of fair skin, dark hair, and blue eyes gives the impression that I am of French or Russian origin.
19. I firmly believe that “a promise is a promise, no matter how small.”
20. Night, I believe, is the most honest time of day. Looking up at the black sky, under the gaze of an unwavering moon and billions of dancing stars, one is reminded of the sheer vastness of the infinite universe. Compared to that, what reason do we have to hide?
21. I have a difficult time balancing putting myself first and putting others first. I’m slowly learning how to say ‘no’.
22. I find nature to be calming. When I’m stressed or sad, I like to surround myself with trees, flowers, the beautiful life that will continue to be.
23. My favorite songs are those that relate to life. Isn’t that what music is supposed to be? A connection to the soul?
24. I tend to talk a lot, ramble about practically anything and everything. It’s easy for me. Silence is not.
25. I promise - no, pinkie promise - that the 22nd will never happen again. Take this writing as proof.
