When I was at Internal Affairs, the guys on the PD gave me a nickname. They called me Two-Face. Honestly, at first it made me cringe. Even now, when reminded of it, my first reaction is usually to feign an amused smile, or to roll my eyes and look away. I guess that’s the side of me that wants to be accepted by everybody.
But I’ll tell you what’s greater than acceptance. It’s knowing you’re doing a job, and doing it well, regardless of what others think of you. Sure, some of the officers might think I’m an asshole…but I’m an asshole who got elected to the District Attorney’s office to do exactly what I did at IA - clean things up. If that nickname means I’m doing the right thing, making Gotham a better place, then call me whatever you want.
