More mind games [RP thread for littlegrayson and arkhams_dr]
The black town car drove past rows of neatly kept houses on the outskirts of Gotham City. In the backseat, Harvey Dent looked out the window, watching the scenery but not truly seeing it, lost in his thoughts.
It had been days since Nadine’s disappearance. Gotham’s finest were on the Scarecrow’s trail and yet had thus far found nothing. He had the increasingly sickening feeling that when they did find her, it would be too late.
“Don’t think like that,” Rachel said, the night before, on the way home from a late night at the office. “Jim will find her, Harvey. You have to trust him.”
He trusted Gordon. It was Gordon’s men that were another story. Rachel’s tone, so naïve, void of any suspicion, bothered him even the next day. And why shouldn’t it have been? She had no reason to suspect that Harvey’s motives for finding Nadine were more than those of a concerned boss worried about his employee…
That’s all it was, Harvey told himself again, balling his fist. Nadine was his employee, his friend if he was being generous. Rachel loved him-Rachel-he loved Rachel. He did. She was so good. She was-what people thought he was…
The car came to a stop, pulling him from his thoughts. They were at one of Gotham’s public elementary schools and he was there to pick up Dick Grayson. After talking to his guardians, the Tanners, on the phone, it had been decided that the best way for Dick to be told about Nadine would be to hear it from Harvey himself. Harvey managed to slip away from the office for the afternoon, taking a back exit to avoid any lawyers or media and had told his driver of the plan.
Now, just as school let out, the car idled out in front, waiting for Dick.
