It's been a couple of weeks since I last posted a listing of comics sitting on my night stand, but yesterday I managed to make a stop at
Austin Books, and came home with the following:
Comics
Amazing Spider-Man #643 (Marvel) - The new "Origin of the Species" story arc got off to a great start last issue; although I'm not too sure about the art style. While the costumes look OK, the civilian characters seem off-model to me.
Birds of Prey #5 (DC) - Hoping the cover implication that the Huntress takes more of a central role this issue turns out to be correct.
Captain America * Patriot #1 (Marvel) - I'm enjoying the recent run of Captain America spin-off titles a lot more than the main series. This looks like another interesting historical WW2 era tale.
DCU Legacies #5 (DC) - The excellent history of the DC Universe series reaches the original Crisis era and is drawn by the master of detail George Perez. Should be a good read.
Fantastic Four #583 (Marvel) - Interested to see how new artist Steve Epting handles the FF and if he lends a different tone to the book.
GI Combat featuring The Haunted Tank #1 (DC) - A one-shot featuring my favorite concept from the DC stable of war-titles, written by my buddy Matt Sturges. The first book I picked up this week.
King #1 (Blacklist Studios) - I picked this up just because of the cover showing an aging Elvis fighting zombies. - You can't get much more high-concept than that.
Northlanders #32 (DC/Vertigo) - The third issue of the "Metal" story-arc. Brian Wood never disappoints with this great historical series.
Our Fighting Forces: The Losers #1 (DC) - The original WW2 era Losers are back in this one-shot.
Rawhide Kid: The Sensational Seven #4 - The final part of this irreverent and amusing take on Western legends.
Spike: The Devil You Know #4 (IDW) - My friend and the writer of this series, Bill Williams, kept telling me all the good stuff happens in this issue. Let's see if he was right.
Thor #615 (Marvel) - Interested to see what direction new writer Matt Fraction is going to take this series.
