Expect the Unexpected

Jogging.  She likes jogging.  Moving in general.  But jogging is good, especially since no one looks at her funny while she checks out the area around her apartment building.  Which is what Cass Cain is currently doing, an hour before the sun sets.  But there are no new dealers on the corner of Winslow and Burt.  And no one is trying to shake down ( Read more... )

Tim perused the cat toys thoughtfully. He held a package of two catnip-filled bug toys that rustled when they were touched, and considered the catnip-filled pouch. Grayson got... pretty ridiculous with his catnip toys, and it was always fun to watch. Maybe the bugs and the catnip pouch.

...And maybe cat treats.

He glanced toward the door automatically when he hear the bell chime as another customer entered. He blinked in surprise. "Cass?"

Cass had been heading over to the counter when she's hailed. But a male voice that doesn't belong to any of the store workers but which she knows well. The brown eyes glance up and she nods to Tim, changing course to walk over to him.

"Tim," she greets him and eyes the various cat toys he's holding. "Grayson?"

He nodded and held up the two toys he'd picked out for him. "He shredded his last catnip pouch, and lost his mice. Time for replacements. What brings you here?"

She nods sagely. Grayson is very...enthusiastic with his toys. It's part of the grey kitten's charm.

In response to his question she turns a little and gestures to the sleeping content of her hood.

Tim peered into the hood curiously and grinned at her. "Cute kitten. Where'd you find him?"

"Street. Left behind," she explains. "Too little." And she doesn't know what to do with a kitten that isn't weened yet. Which would be why he came here. The people that work here are very knowledgeable and sensible.

"Poor little guy," Tim said sympathetically. He liked cats. It was a pity that this one had lost its family. "You're keeping him, though? Not taking him to a shelter?"

She. Actually. Is going to keep him, Cass realizes. She hadn't been thinking of it in terms like that, but that's what it amounts to. She'll take care of him, become his new mother. His new family.

She nods firmly but carefully, not waiting to jostle her little friend. Not that it matters. A little mew comes from the folds of her hood ans can feel the beast shifting around.

Tim grinned when he saw the little kitten stir. He was pretty tiny--smaller than Grayson had been. He would probably need kitten formula and a little extra care. He was sure Cass was up to the task. "Came here for advice?"

Cass nods again, but then reaches back and gently helps the little beast move form her hood to her shoulder. The orange kitten gives himself a little shake, then issues a pitiful mew that sounds all about hunger.

The Asian girl makes a purring sound in the back of her throat as she strokes on fuzzy ear. She needed to get him some food. Probably some water. She wasn't sure he'd drink for a dish. Would a syringe be a better idea?

"Oh, wow," Tim breathed, watching the little guy climb onto Cass's shoulder. "He's even cuter when he's moving. Grayson definitely wasn't that little when I got him."

Cass isn't even conscious that she's doing so, but she's rubbing her cheek to the furry little body. After all, she's just nodding. "Needs eats," she says after a moment. "You know?" Tim has a cat of his own. Maybe he knows what she needs to do for her new friend.

Tim bit back on an amused grin. "Well, Grayson was pretty much able to eat and drink by himself before I got him. I think your little guy might need kitten formula, or something like that. Through a little bottle, maybe, or a syringe. We can check with the pet store people, or a vet." Actually, a vet trip was probably in order anyway, for shots and a check up at the very least.

"Vet?" She asks curiously, unfamiliar with the word. The kitten is purring LOUDLY and leaning her on the stroking fingers. Then he sits back and makes his heartbreaking little sound again.

He laughed. "Cat doctor. He should probably see one anyway, just to make sure he's doing okay, and to get him his vaccinations. And a vet will be able to tell you what he needs."

Well that would make sense. Like having Alfred check them over after an injury. Or Lesley. But Alfred knows more about proper nutrition....

"Where Vet?" She wants to know, starting a feel anxious. She doesn't want to make her little friend wait for a meal. Btu she wants to do this right.
