Dinner of nachos with whatever that shit is they call cheese & and a cherry icee thing; walked easily four miles today; whatever the fucking bite on my knee is, the thing is swelling, red, hot and makes the full range of movement difficult; Glendale, NY is a little on the scarier side after dark, but Rego Park is really quite nice, if suburban; the theatre was in Glendale and as such rather dingy and unkempt; smoked up a storm to cover nerves; stopped up a toilet (that could easily have not been my fault...but maybe it was); spent a lot of time waiting for a train that wouldn't come so I took a different one that put me somewhere still almost a mile from home; gave up and accepted RipOff taxi (not the yellow cabs, a private service that costs more and might not be exactly legal).
The shining star to all of this dark of night was going to see Wall-E. Even though I had intended to go see Get Smart. If I had meant to see Wall-E I would have gone to the theatre in Union Square or something and spared myself this hassle. But I got lost in Rego Park and decided I wanted to see that intro walk into CONTROL very, very much. But oh...Wall-E...! Loved it. I was afraid it would be too saccharine, but the good words getting heaped on Pixar have continued to be well earned. Now they know how to tell a story. As Pixar has done with its other movies, there's a short film out front. A new one - about a magician named Presto and his devious rabbit. Brilliant!!
Could have done with pretty much all of the first part (well the walking was good) but I'm so very glad I got the latter in tonight.
