(no subject)

Posting quickly to get a thought down and to put off studying for a bit longer:

I participated in a play reading today. The writer typically writes expressionistic, experimental work and likes to tackle subjects that are otherwise challenging to articulate. The play revolved around the nature of communication online and how it's been altered/mutated/evolved as technology has progressed. The play originally was about Net Neutrality but widened in scope until the NN part became barely more than a footnoote.

But what strikes me, now that I think about it, is that it became a scifi piece, rather inadvertently. Only by way of the ending, though, because while it all takes place on the ether, messages and concepts being characters that interact, it's trying to be eternal about what is essentially a moment in time. But since the current iteration of the play ends up looking into the future and wraps things up with the hope (or maybe fear) of Singularity...to me that cries out "science fiction!" pretty loud.

It's just funny because I know that's not what the writer had in mind. I don't think he'd be too upset by it though.
