In Vino...

Off essentialsaltes's tip I hit the grand opening of Bin #73 this last night.

Review is here. Clicky!

Wanted to note a couple things I had to leave out of the article. One, content-wise wasn't exactly relevant but worth remarking on, at least to myself. Boy they had some good looking waitstaff. The sommelier herelf was rather comely and sweet. One of the waiters was just... oof pretty. I have it on authority that he also doesn't go for girls. *shrug* Hardly lessens the eye candy-worthiness of the lad. And there was this waitress... I know if diabhol had been there he would never have let up on how she was flirting with me. I'm inclined to look for reasons she paid so much attention to me. Could have been because I was writing about the place but that doesn't entirely make sense. But ah, what the hell, she was just good looking. Dressed great, cute as a button and I kept looking up to see her looking at me. Once I remembered to smile back she came over to chat with me. (She mentioned a boyfriend so that makes me question why on earth she was chatting me up.) But again, eye candy is eye candy and a nice person who makes time for you shouldn't be dismissed. Eh. *shrug*smile*

They quickly saw me taking notes and asked me about it. Usually I give dorky responses because the notes have always been just for myself. But now it's for writing articles and being as professional as a penny(ish)-per-click a writer can be. So I introduced myself as from the Examiner. That got the sommelier to talk to me quite a bit - but seriously, she was very friendly and talkative. Anyway, I just cozied up to her end of the bar since I was alone and wanted a good look at the wines behind the counter. And because the sommelier was there. And because she's good looking. What? When she heard I was going to write about the opening she made a point of getting the owner, so I got to speak with her too. Super cool. She had minimal time for me but she was cordial. Then the sommelier carried on slipping me tastes (shh) in between pours I actually ordered. Other patrons who knew the owner and the area talked to me too which helped me get some history. (If you'll allow me some sexism here... it was really neat to observe two businesswomen handle the situation and hear them talk about their plans for the bar and how it'll serve the community.)

The other thing I couldn't include were pictures I took, including one of the owner and sommelier. ARGH. So frustrating. Examiner's size restriction makes my photos around two times too big. I don't have Photoshop. I imagine I could with Illustrator...maybe. It'll just take time, first to get 'round to it and second to get past the inevitable shouting matches I'll be having with my POS computer. Feh.

I had wanted to try to hit the one last theatre showing Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus out in Santa Monica but due to chatting up and being chatted up (and trying an interesting line up of Latin wines) I missed the show. }:/ I'll have to call the theatre and see if they're still going to show it during the weekend. Maybe I can make it on Saturday before the play. i had wanted to try to get to it *before* going to Bin #73 but there was that whole sleeping in the middle of the day, day dreaming of Molly Pitcher and WASPs and revisionist U.S. history....
