Firstly: Happy birthday
mabon_grey! And happy Solstice everyone!

Now then... Barely been online thanks to the madness of the past couple days.
Firefly LARP yesterday was brilliant. I got in a secret foodening with
richardabecker's help. Cooked dinner for the crew - my gaming mates of the past two years. Kept it simple with chicken & veggies and several different spices. Pulled out a couple of nice wines also.
***Ugh. I hate it when someone asks me "Shall we [do x, y, z]?" or "Will you [do x, y, z]?" as if I had any choice. BRB***
Kay then. Now what. We gamed. We role played. We had a blast. There are a couple of exchanges that I really loved but I need to write them down when I'm feeling less run over by the weekend. Yeah, it'll be an entry of Cool Things My PC did said. Extremely dorky. oh well, deal with it.
There were excellent costumes, really sharp RP and characterizations by other players. And as always, masterful storytelling by
richardabecker. The first and foremost among any.
Pictures to come.
Left the game in a haze of exhaustion, cleaned up my mess at Richard's house, loaded it into the truck and wandered back to the HP Haus where I can crash & not worry about parking (usually). Did worry about leaving a lot of my crap in the cab of the truck where anyone can see (I really miss having a trunk). But it worked out.
Got up earlier than I wanted, but as late as I could get away with this morning. Spent a little bit of time with Miss Brazelton and then headed off to
Tracing Sonny. A couple of hiccups in a really tricky part of running tech brought me back to the present tense. Ah well, that happens. Luckily, even though I got drowsy in a couple sections, they're long and I have no involvement so I came to in time for sections where I was needed.
Grabbed coffee and headed back to the OC. Family decided to celebrate Father's Day at Medieval Times. I didn't get the time to be there until I got to the house. My cell had been dying for more than a day and was finally kaput. Plugged it in long enough to find the right text message from my mom and found I needed to turn around and head back out. I got there just in time to get drinks for the parents (Shirley Temple for my dad & a Buck Rogers for my mom) and a pina colada for me. And then it was time to take our seats.
Worked out just as well. There's something earnestly cheesy about Medieval Times that I just can't shake or ignore. Usually I'm better than most at suspending my disbelief and/or just going with the cheery sentiment of enjoying attempts at entertainment. It's hard to verbalize just how Medieval Times completely misses the mark for me but the Renaissance Faire is fun.
Also the halls get crowded as hell before & after shows and then they get hot. Getting bumped constantly at the same time that I'm feeling sticky and grimy is no kind of fun.
Anyway, I kept this to myself and tried to have some fun studying the heraldry and technical design of the show. I'm not much of a heraldric scholar but I know red & orange usually relate to Spain and the the double headed black eagle usually relates to Germany (or Germanic states). So for the eagle to show up on a red & orange standard seems like a glaring mistake. And I was off. Seems like the only "right" one was the blue standard with the fleur-de-lis. The showman ship was cool of course. Andalusians are incredibly beautiful. And of course they had to have them do stupid horse tricks. Part of why I'm not an MT fan is because I've been there about a half dozen times and while some of the narrative has changed the basics of the show haven't. And for god's sake no one goes back for a different freaking narrative. The lines are exactly as cheesy as the rest of the place and the "plot" doesn't get past a third grade level. So seeing the same horse tricks again, cool as they are, doesn't add much positive to the experience.
So there you go. Sorry to rain on your parade if you really like this place. But I really don't care for it.
And that was that. Headed on back to the house, fixed up some coffee. Got to work catching up on stuff. Was interrupted, got back in and here I am. How was your weekend?
