7 writing tips found in a book

1. A story is a story is a story.

2. The writer must honour emotional and psychological realism.

3. Writing is thinking on paper.

4. If there's nothing at stake for the characters, there's nothing at stake for the readers.

5. Let no two people speak the same.

6. Let children be children.

7. Show, don't tell.

I wrote a story last night. I had one of those moments where the story flowed from my fingertips to the keyboard and I didn't stop until a first draft had been typed up. It felt wonderful.
