You know what, John was not a dead beat dad. He never abandoned his kids. He may not have been perfect but the definition of a dead beat dad is a dad who abandons his children and does not want anything to do with them.
I'm kind of miffed that Dean keeps calling him that especially when John died and went to hell to save Dean's life.
There I said it. I just feel like it's disingenuous for the writers to suddenly have Dean talking this way about a father who while fucked up did not once turn his back on his boys. Sure he went off for weeks at a time but he always came back. He was there for them and in the end made the ultimate sacrifice so Dean could live.
