Homemade granola and applesauce...

...is a very, very good breakfast. It's also incredibly hippy and D-I-Y, but really, that's what makes it so good for me. I can't believe I went for so long thinking applesauce involved some kind of long, complicated process. But no! Apples, water, rice cooker, potato masher... and like an hour later I'm all set! Woo! I thought I did some cooking, but making breakfast (other than waffles from a box) is just beyond me. Also, you'll do fine tomorrow. So there. :)

Thanks Liz! To be fair, I made the granola almost a week ago, and the applesauce is even older, so technically this morning I only put together some leftovers, but since they were leftovers I made (and so very tasty to boot), it did make me feel pretty spiffy. I'd say breakfast is one of my favorite meals to cook, but I also like dinner a lot too, so whatever. Yay for food is what I say. Yay!

I agree! And yay for natural food that doesn't contain partially hydrogenated stuff or ingredients with 9 syllables! Does that make me a hippy too?

For all my hippitude (is that a word?) I'm still a conventional peanut butter-eater (only Skippy, though; the other brands are too sweet), and this means I eat partially hydrogenated oils, because apparently that's what stops the peanut butter from separating into an oil layer and a nut layer. Or something. I'm either a giant hippie or a giant food snob for knowing that, perhaps both.

i'm not quite either of those, but i can't handle skippy. gotta be the old-fashioned kind with the nut and oil layers. only i pour off the oil layer before i eat it so i just get the nummy peanut stuff. tastes the same, but with slightly less fat.
