"We came over the wall..."

In her sleep, she stirs and rolls towards him, pressing her nose against the hollow of his throat. It's a familiar position to find herself in, her arm snaking across him, hand smoothing across his hip. She fights valiantly to stay awake but it isn't working. Nelson shoves his head against her hand, looking for attention and Eden lifts her head ( Read more... )

Sleep comes and goes for Babe and he takes it when he can get it, but being tired like this has never happened before. It's one of those times when you just can't keep your eyes open, but you can't remember falling asleep. It's not easy to wake up from sleep like that and when Babe does, he hears the steady clacking of wheels on a track.

Nelson's on his stomach, purring away like there's nothing out of the ordinary. Babe hears Eden like there's a wall between them and she's talking through it. Once the sleep in his ears defogs, he hears things better, but that ain't Eden's voice. When he sits up, he realizes he fuckin' knows these people. Not in the sense that he's met them, but he knows 'em because he's seen them and seen how they are.

"Jesus Christ," he says, scrubbing his hands over his still drowsy face. "What now?"

Davos had woken before either Babe or Eden, which was fortunate, because he had needed the time to gather himself. He wrapped his left hand around the pouch at his neck and mouthed a slient prayer to the Father. It was clear that the gods who had brought him to Tabula Rasa had moved him to a new destination and it only took him a moment to identify where that was ( ... )

To his credit, Norton's only reaction to the whole situation is a twitch of an eyebrow. His eyes never leave Eden, and it's a familiar look. From the moment she met him, she knew that she could trust him. The flood of relief she feels at seeing him is almost unprecedented.

"They're both with me," she says, finally, when she realises that she can talk. "Davos." She points, "And Private Heffron." She looks down at the cat. "The cat's Nelson."

She stands up, cautiously, moving fluidly with the movement of the train.

"Davos...Babe...This is Sergent Alex Norton."

"Hey, how ya doin'?" is all he can muster before he looks out the window.

Yeah, he knows who the guy is and that, in itself, is unnerving. Babe's no less comforted when he looks outside or by the fact that his pig isn't there.

"Eden," he calls her that 'cause that's just what he always calls her and it doesn't strike him as anything but normal, even though this ain't normal. Going to a magical island ain't normal either, but this really, really isn't normal. "This is your train, isn't it?"

"A pleasure, of course," Davos told Norton politely.

He watched Eden carefully when Babe asked his question. He was in a strange situation and he needed her to tell him what he should do. What she wanted from him.

"I don't know if I'd call it my bloody train, Babe," she says, smiling tightly as she gets up off the floor, walking towards the door with her heels making a loud sound on the boards.

"Bloody shitting hell," she mutters, looking out of the door and then turning back towards Babe and Davos. "Fucking island."

Babe's heard some pretty colourful language out of Eden's mouth, but nothing like that, and it ain't too reassuring. "We're goin' where I think we are, huh?" he asks. Yeah. Fuckin' island, that's about right. Suddenly, it don't seem so bad compared to where they are now.

Davos was wondering much the same thing. If he remembered right, the girl had offered to take Eden somewhere safe as well as directly to Kane.

Eden had a mission and he would not ask her to abandon her duty but nor did he wish for her to watch her men die again. And for that matter he did not wish to die himself.

He decided it was best not to say anything. It was not his decision to make.

"Kane's," says Eden, her jaw tightening as she looks at Babe for a long moment. She loves Babe more than anybody she's ever loved, and Davos is the closest thing she's had to family except Bill Nelson, and she'd give anything, anything at all, to not be bringing them into this kind of danger.

Which makes her weak, which is even more fucking dangerous.

Shit.

"Norton," she says, snapping to attention so quick that she almost gives herself whiplash, and, suddenly, there's nothing soft in her face.

"Major?" says Norton, looking more curious than anything.

"Norton, we need to get off this bloody train."

Since he's known Eden, Babe's known about what she'd done in London, that she'd been Major Sinclair and not Eden, but she's been his Eden in every sense of the name. Seein' her as Major Sinclair is unnerving, like seeing a truth you know's always been there for the first time.

It's so surreal that Babe barely registers what's happening. He fairly gapes at his girlfriend, at the woman he wants to find a ring for and he sees her change. The most unsettling part about it is, he knows it's real and not just another dream he's gonna wake up in the middle of the night for. Right?

Off this bloody train sounds good, but then what the fuck are they supposed to do?

Davos was glad to hear that. Apart from anything else, he wasn't sure he entirely trusted a train. Most of his attention, however, was on Norton. He wasn't sure how he would react to that particular order though he supposed Eden had a ready made explanation if she needed it. All they needed was a survivor, after all.

He just wished he could remember if there was another man on board, he was sure that there had been, but he couldn't recall whether if he was still alive at this point. If he was, it was not something he wanted to come as a surprise.

He still wasn't planning on saying anything. He was just happy to observe and wait for things to be sorted out.

"So...not Kane's then?" asks Norton, though he's already on his feet, enough a soldier to be well of his way to obeying Eden even while he's telling her that her plan's shit. "What about the cure?"

Eden's eyes flick past him to Callie, who's just now waking up with Sterling's arm around her.

"Not a problem," she says. "We have to get off this train because I am not bringing them to Kane."

"This isn't happenin'." Babe's got his face in his hands, his head is pounding, and boy, is it ever happening. There's no doubt about it, that they've somehow transported to this train and they're gonna end up in a place where they don't wanna be.

Davos had risen to his feet at the same time as Norton and he took a step towards Babe when the boy spoke.

"Best we get moving," he told him in the most reassuring tone he could muster.

Eyes still on Norton, Eden reaches out and rests her hand on the back of Babe's neck, squeezing gently.

"It is happening, and we're going to be fucking fine," she promises. "And Davos is right. We need to get off this bloody train sooner rather than later."
