Once upon a time in a land not so far away from here there was a little lost boy who had wandered off the beaten track. He was new to this city, or so it seemed, and naive in the ways of the world and how things worked.

He wandered in the darkness trying to find his way home when out from the shadows strange creatures appeared- not quite men and not quiet monster- and they set about the boy as blood sport, and rummaged around through his pocket for gold he did not have, and when the boy fell to the ground sick scared and shaking, they circled their prey and the little boy thought that it must be the end.

That’s when they appeared. Two almighty lions charging in and growling in thunderous voices that terrified the boy. They swiped at the creatures with heavy paws and fierce claws and their roars deafened the boy who curled up as small as he could to try and escape the clamor and the ache and the increasing race of his hammering heart. He closed his eyes tight and longed himself so far away, and he wondered if it was better to be ripped apart for pleasure or eaten alive by lions, and he waited to find out what was to become of him, this little lost lamb so far away from home.

After a little while he noticed the roaring had stopped, and that all he could hear was the low intimidating growl of the lions discussing him though he didn’t understand what they were saying, until one of the lions picked him up, and put him on his feet, and after making sure their find was all in one piece they walked with him to his home and began to wash the blood away.

The lions left the boy and he sat still on his bed and wondered about the day’s events.

The next morning the lions were back, then the next and then the next, until one day when they came for him they brought him back to their den and introduced him to their ferocious pride of weather beaten warriors, where to his surprise he was accepted and the little boy wondered how he could possibly survive amongst such strong and powerful creatures. Until one day the boy realized- as he was walking alone through the same dark spot and the wild men left him well alone, slinking back with their heads bowed in reverence- that the little lamb had been a lion all along.
