I tend not to discard insights as worthless - dismiss something too easily and it could come back to haunt you later.

[Not speaking from personal experience, no, not at all.]

If something happens that makes you take a step back and evaluate, no matter how trivial it may seem, it's worth something. Even if it's just solidifying the belief you already had.

I would say practical. If there's a way to avoid a problem, simply by keeping something in mind, then I'd do it. There are enough problems about without those brought about through carelessness or negligence.
