dress you up in my love

Waiting for a bus in Central Square with Corinne, Bekah, and Shauna.  A skinny, middle-aged man with gold teeth approaches.

Man: Y'all are sisters?  That's sweet.  [Pulls out his wallet.]  Let me tell you something.  [Opens wallet to reveal school picture of pretty girl.]  This is my daughter.  Jessica's her name.  Ain't she pretty?  Listen to this.  Me and her mother, we're not together.  Her name's Maria; she's Italian.  I called up their house on Mother's Day and I said to Jessica, "I love you, baby.  Happy Mother's Day."  And she says, "I love you too, Daddy.  Thank you for everything you do for me."  And I say, "Jessica, give the phone to your mother."  I say, "Maria, happy Mother's Day.  Would you do me a favor?"  And she says, "What?"  And I say... "Hold my love?"  Ha, ha, ha.  I asked her to hold my love!  [Puts wallet away.]  So... would you do me a favor?

Me: Sure.

Man: Would you hold my love?  Ha, ha, ha.

Me: Of course.

Man, walking away, then turning back: That's sweet, ain't it?  Hold my love, I said!

.......

A few minutes later, another crazy man, this one seemingly less benign, turns to stare at me as he gallops past, then mocks me repeatedly with an insane smile on his face.  He stares over his shoulder at me, cackling, as he crosses the street, and is not hit by a car.  Anticlimax!
