Okay, I need some advice.

The short backstory: building next to mine burned to the ground on November 4th, damaging my building in the process. I have been unable to occupy my apartment since then and have been sleeping at a friend's house. At first, the landlord estimated I'd be back in my apartment within two weeks. Now it has been two months. They keep encountering problems in the building as they're working, and the whole process is moving very very slowly. The latest update from the landlord estimates that I "may" be able to get back into my apartment in mid-January "IF" (all caps, bold, italicized) several different factors fall into place (insurance adjustor moves more quickly, etc.).

My dilemma: Now that I have been waiting for two months, always feeling like a burden living in someone else's house, not having a place of my own, hoping that I will be able to go home soon, getting so tired of answering everyone and their mothers' questions about my living situation, do I keep waiting, or do I start looking for a new apartment?

Pros of finding a new place:
-No more waiting
-Have control over my domestic destiny
-Stop feeling like a burden
-Uh, have a place to live
-Be reunited with my cat

Cons of finding a new place:
-I've waited two months already. What if my apartment is ready in January and I've moved out? I will be so pissed off. I liken this to getting at the end of a very long line, waiting two hours with little progress, leaving the line, and then watching it zoom ahead so the person who was standing right behind you is at the front within a minute. Or sticking it out in traffic, finally switching lanes, only to have the lane you were just in suddenly go warp-speed. I hope this makes sense, because it makes a lot of sense to me.
-I LOVE my apartment. It is a huge studio for only me and my cat. It is in a good location (close to the T). It is affordable. My landlord really likes me and wants to keep me. Please do not discount the importance of how much I love my apartment in weighing your decision.
