When she was two that boy at the playground pushed her, and everyone laughed while she cried with a bleeding knee. When she was four that girl at the nursery told her she was ugly, and the others snickered while she pretended she didn’t hear. When she was six the children at school called her a whore (‘just like your mother,’ they said), and the next day she dropped twenty dead cockroaches into the cafeteria food. This time she was the one laughing.
Georgina Sparks had built the walls around her, and she wasn’t going to let anyone get inside.
