Like all good entries by me, I must start with a giant MMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
So, I recently quit my job at Family Dollar to give being a nanny a try. I figure it will be more money, and more time off to focus on yoga. I've got a second interview this Sunday, and it seems like I already have the job the way they are talking. This one pays about $100 a week, which is pretty sweet but I need at least one more job to make it so that I can pay my bills, have fun, and save a bit. I still need a car and I still need to move out.
Apparently, people expect me to be a nanny for less than minimum wage, as well as do housework. I'm only asking for $8 an hour. But I am not willing to be a maid as well as a nanny. I will HELP with housework, i.e. picking up after the kids, cleaning up the kitchen or bathroom, but I'm a nanny. Not nanny/maid. And if you want me to do housework too, you BETTER pay me at least $8. I just called this one woman who has two kids and wants a nanny just for one, and wants me to do housework. She says she'll be at home to take care of one kid. And I'm like "ok, then what do you need me for?" I didn't say that but I'm thinking it. And then she says she doesn't know if she can afford $8 an hour. And it's like, wtf? I made $6 as a cashier. $8 is the LEAST I should be making.
People need to realize that I'm trying to make a living too. I'm not just doing this for fun. I have bills, and I have needs. These things require money. More than $6 an hour. I deserve more than that for watching kids, playing with them, cleaning their asses, etc. Seriously. If you are not willing to pay someone a decent wage then just stick with family who will do it for free.
Sheesh!
