Last weekend I petsat the worst dog I have ever met in my life. He belongs to my friend Vince, who is very obsessed with Pearl Jam. He easily had like, fifteen or more Pearl Jam posters in his place, as well as framed and signed Pearl Jam tickets, and framed pictures of Pearl Jam, and also, on the table were a pair of tickets for an upcoming Pearl Jam concert. Pearl Jam. So naturally, his chocolate lab's name is Vedder. He is very cute, and in his defense, he is seven months old, and not fixed. I think once he gets older and snipped, you can't find a better dog. But for now, he's such a handful. It was like having a mentally challenged kid! He would chew a piece of furniture, and I would give him a bone or a toy to chew instead, which he would chew for two minutes, and then he'd chew a different piece of furniture, or the molding, or the corners of the walls. This cycle repeated itself over and over again. Vince had told me that he "doesn't care if he chews shit, as long as he doesn't chew my records, or anything Pearl Jam related", but his dog was really destroying his shit! I pulled wood, wicker, screen mesh, and drywall out of Vedder's mouth several times throughout the night. When he wasn't chewing furniture, he was humping pillows, or trying to hump me. His gross red lipstick dick kept coming out and he was licking it a lot. Any time I tried to pet him he would playfully nip my hands and forearms, or jump on me, literally every single time. He was just a fucking maniac! At one point I decided to take him on a nice long walk to chill him out, and while we were walking he pooped. I was getting the bag ready to pick it up, and he ate two of the three turds he'd just passed. Just gobbled them right up, fresh out of his ass, still warm. What the fuck? I've had dogs my whole life and never seen one do that.
On Saturday when I was happily emancipated from Vedder I rode my bike to Princeton Record Exchange and bought $30.00 worth of budget CDs. The budgets were sooooo good! I scored a lot of great stuff! The two I was most excited about were The Transfiguration of Blind Joe Death by John Fahey and Kensington Blues by Jack Rose. They sound very much alike, and beautiful; just some sad lonely fingerpickers with lots of skills. I also picked up Monster by R.E.M. because it was only $1.00, and I always think about fucking with it because I know I like two songs on it and there are always like 20 used copies. I rebought Figure 8 by Elliot Smith for the third time, which I do with so many budget CDs. I got Neurosis's Given to the Rising, and it sounds good like all their other albums. I should have bought more records but there were too many people in the vinyl zone and I didn't feel like hanging out on the floor with my head at all the people's crotch level for hours.
My Aunt Sally from Florida was in town, so I hung out with her and my parents on Saturday night. We looked at a bunch of great old photos from their youth and drank wine and ate dinner. On Sunday I went out to dinner with them at an expensive restaurant in New Hope where I had the most delicious and buttery scallops of my entire career. Aunt Sally is so cool and laid back. It was really good to see her.
On Sunday Mark and I looked at a house in Lambertville that we really liked. We made an offer on it yesterday. There are a million little details and a million forms, and a million opportunities for shit to go wrong with buying a house, so I won't get into any details, because that's boring and annoying. Long story short, we were pre-approved for a loan, we have a decent chunk to put down, and we offered a little over the asking price because there are two other people bidding on the house, and our realtor advised us to. So we'll see what happens. If it works out, it works out, and if it doesn't, we'll find something else within three months, because after three months the pre-approval expires. This is the first house we have looked at in person so we're really new to it.
Last night we went to see Windhand and Sleep at Union Transfer. It was really incredible and I had such a good time. They were both fucking awesome and really loud. We had good spots where we could see pretty well. Everyone was smoking weed. I had a very euphoric zone out experience. I felt blissful and content on so many levels that I haven't felt in a while. I've seen Sleep three times now, and this was hands down the best, as well as the best show I have seen all year. On Saturday we're going to see the Pissed Jeans at the same place, so I'm really stoked for that!! I've seen them so many times, and they always absolutely rip it, every time. They just put on a really good show. They're my favorite band and I think it's fucking SO COOL that I get to see them at least once a year, since they're from Philly.
On Thursday I have a haircut appointment, and on Saturday I have a color appointment. They're both going to be expensive, and the color will probably take a long time, but I haven't done shit to my hair since November so it's much needed at this point.
Except for the dog, these are all pretty good things in life.
