Failbot is the first boy that Nico has accepted as her boyfriend---and told other people about. She's dated casually (re: made mistakes with boys she kind of liked for all the wrong reasons) but she has trouble with commitment and a whole slew of other things. Victor appeared in her life as an enemy at first, someone who would take her best friend from her eventually, so it wasn't a surprise that during their first encounter she delivered a stiletto-heeled kick to his face. Victor was attractive so there was some interest, but he was Bad, even if he was trying to be Good. When Gert died sans his involvement, she realized that she'd been treating him exactly how she didn't want to be treated---as an outsider because of what his parents wanted him to become. When he came to her to comfort her and things got kind of out of hand, she fell headlong into a sort-of-dating-not-really thing that Lillie totally ruined that bitch.

She gave him space and told him to go after the girl he loved, even though she resented him for it. She tried to be the bigger woman there, but it made her angry that she could be replaced that easily---and that her lack of commitment had him going for the potatoes o'brien special that was the Spieler.

In the City, first!Victor made some vague attempts at relationship-making and then stood her up. She stuck paperclips to his face when he slept in a fit of passive-aggressive raeg, but she never actually called him out on it. It was easier to let it drop at let him think that it didn't bother her than to advertise that her dark little heart was capable of being hurt by him. This!Victor came in close at the heels of Mark porting back in (and not remembering her) and Riful trying to make a delicious delicious snack out of her insides, so she relied on Victor for stability even though she still wanted to paperclip his face.

Victor is one of the most important people in her life now, and one that she feels she can date. While she did have kind of an emotional fling with Mark before he Ported out, she was never wholly honest with him. She was always hiding things or downplaying her parents' eviltude because he was so squeaky-clean and heroically sparkly; with Victor, she has nothing to hide because he already knows and gets it. He accepts that she's not some perfect white mage with +5 to group healing and she accepts that he can interface with Apple technology and allows him access to her lacy black skull panties. It's a comfortable relationship for her, as downplayed as it is, and something integral to her growth as a person. They're cut from the same evil cloth, but they're learning to be better together somehow and carving out a space in a polarized hero community. The whole fact that the Victorious shebang made her step up as a leader and not curl up into a ball of self-woe BECAUSE she loved him shows that she's getting somewhere, albeit slowly.

She'd do just about anything for him. Maybe even say the "L" word. Someday.

wow that got TL;DR I'M SO SORRY
