Okay, so two videos. Background on the first--from the first episode of Firefly. Simon, River's brother, gets onto the ship Serenity with a large crate. Assuming Mal is an Alliance mole, Mal throws the crate open to find River in cryogenic stasis. So there is her introduction, and then Simon's subsequent speech about her which is lovely and breaks my heart every time and kjfsldkfs things.

All you really need to know is that everyone is being held hostage by the British gentleman and his thugs, they had decided a diversion would be the best way to fight their way out, and that Simon is trying to hide River in case someone recognizes her, considering that they are wanted fugitives.
