Having known about the comic, and known the story, forEVAR, but having never read the comic, I can say that I liked it. I know, I know, that turns me into some kind of geek pariah because OMG I NEVAR READ WATCHMEN WTFUX, but eh.

From what I've heard about the squid, I think within the confines of the retelling, and the presentation to a wider-than-comic-geeks-audience, changing it was a good move on their part. I can safely say that, as far as I was concerned, the movie didn't drop the ball anywhere.

The music choices didn't bother me much, but I'm a fan of the 'fitting-but-not-fitting' use of music. Call me weird. 'Halleluja' in the sex scene elicited quite a number of lulz from our row, though I gotta say, that felt like the longest movie intro I've ever sat through. It was good, and made a very nice setup, but it felt like it was dragging too much for my tastes.

Sex scene: *shrug* Didn't bug me. I was happy for cute, geeky li'l Dan to be getting his groove on with Laurie. Girlfriend agreed. The row was unanimous in the approval of leaving her boots on; go fig. Also, flamethrower? Lulz indeed.

LAYING THE BLUE PIPE: You could hear the casual moviegoers in the audience snicker and chortle when it first showed, but when it happened EVERY TIME HE TURNED AROUND?! Close to the end, I was about ready to stand up in my seat and scream out, "OH MY GOD, IT'S A PENIS!" and wave my hands dramatically. Thankfully, I was dissuaded.

All in all, I was pleased. For something that's been in comicdom's hearts for so long, I don't think there was anything wrong with it.

But hey. I like Movie Devastator's design. What the fuck do I know. :3
