EVERYONE knows Joker is...very fond of his Batty. I don't think that one is physical attraction, though. SO. Allow me to bore the tears out of you with my explanation of that particular relationship:
The short explanation is that Joker's relationship to the Bat is imprinting. But this, of course, raises more questions. How did it happen and why?
The Joker has no memory of his own life prior to the accident at ACE. This means his first memory of conscious existence is one of incredible pain and suffering: liquid fire burning through his skin and eyes and into his lungs. All he really knows is that he was wearing the Hood at the time and that Batman was there. Batman, therefore, is tied in closely to the Joker's very first memory and that memory is a painful and traumatic one. He was there on the day of the Joker's birth and may have even been responsible for it. Thoughts of the Bat raise memories, perhaps subconsciously, of horrible agony and panic. That is why Batman is larger than life to the Joker.
When Batman stopped him from poisoning the reservoir and getting revenge against the heads of ACE, he secured himself as the Joker's nemesis, always there to prevent him from carrying out his plans. Always the reason for his pain. Since Joker doesn't remember his past, there is nothing that emotionally ties him to humanity. Batman quickly became his most important relation. Over time Joker has dubbed himself the tragic protagonist of his own dramatic life, Batman is his unwilling comedic double but also his villain. There would be no drama and no conflict without him.
Batman-the face of the Joker's pain and the cause of his creation. The hated adversary and beloved co-star. The primal enemy. He hates Batman but thrives on that hatred. It's what spurs him and what gets him up in the morning. He would be lost without it.

Joker totally embraces himself as being evil but I think he legitimately believes there is a place for him in the history of the human race. Some day, he thinks, people will look back on his life and see him as an artistic genius and remember Batman as the asshole.
