What is your character's pullpoint? What made you pick this canon point? Are there any special challenges that come with it? Do you let other canon timeperiods influence your characterization ( Read more... )

Original pull point was early Blackest Night because it was current canon and her own series wasn't around yet and... Robinson did surprisingly good things for her characterization and getting over the one millionth loss of her father, as close as it was to the point where she also lost David. I think Giffen did an excellent job and managed to write Hell the way it's meant to be in the DCU this time around, rather than a gag and I pull a lot from that part, as well, since it's less than "three months ago" from where I canon updated her to.

When I canon updated her, it was from her own series... which I'd never wanted to update to, but it was too tempting to have her port back in wearing a wedding dress. Poor Lassiter. :(

I think if I were to do it all over again, I might do it before Identity Crisis or just after Seven Soldiers. Maybe early 2007 or so. The entirety of her canon's pretty straightforward at that point and everything fits in its place, even though I loathe Identity Crisis and all it stands for. It didn't have Dini using Bruce as a self-insert for his own creepy obsession and in general, I think her characterization was more consistent. She's definitely a more subtle troll and her stage persona is easily differentiated from the person she is with the League, with other magic users, when she's alone, or when she's with people who are very close to her.

As it stands, I really don't pull a lot from how Dini writes her and tend to stick to one-shot writers that all have written her in a very consistent way (Ney Reiber, I think, is probably who I pull from the most post-Crisis as he bridged the gap between that awkward, flat, dialog of ye olde comicland and what Dini and other writers are trying to do to her now with all the "cute" one-liners and quipping). UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

I can see why wedding dress temptation would be hard to resist.

Making Lassiter uncomfortable is her favorite, even if she has no choice in the matter.
