anyway, Ruka is kind of a special case! everyone knows Eridan is awful at having friends, because he's pretty insufferable all the time/always redirects conversations to himself/ignores all advice if it's not exactly what he wants to hear/etc., and therefore he doesn't... really have friends to speak of. Ruka still willingly initiates conversations with him after knowing him for multiple months though, meaning she's already doing better than probably a good 75% of the people he's known ever.
this will never stop him from taking advantage of this tolerance for the sole purpose of getting attention and/or buttpats, like he does with all his friends.
still, she's the main person (not in a quadrant) who deals with him! meaning that if his quadrants couldn't soothe his hurt feelins, he would probably go to her for it. and maybe whine a little when he didn't get a YOU'RE TOTALLY RIGHT ERIDAN YOU'RE THE GREATEST YAY YOU, but that comes with the territory.
TL;DR RUKA IS SORT OF HIS MAIN NON-QUADRANT PERSON WHO DEALS WITH HIM WILLINGLY, MEANING SHE'S GOING TO BE HIS GO-TO GIRL FOR SOOTHING HIS EGO WHEN IT INEVITABLY GETS BRUISED.
It's honestly kind of hilarious that Eridan's desperate need for external validation is part of why Ruka wants to be/is more capable of being his friend.
